Once again another useless response by Gerard, member of the infamous wall of idiots. Here is an explanation for you.

It is illegal to use the same software on more then one PC because, when you purchase the software, you are agreeing to the license agreement. The agreement states that you do not actually own the software, you are actually just leasing the software for use on one and only one PC. Because software companies don't give out their source code, you are actually only purchasing the object program. You never actually own the whole program which is a funny thing isn't it?

When you install the program, you uae the unique key to register your copy with the company (you don't have to register, but you do need to use the key). If you use that key on another pc running the same copy you bought (or downloaded), you are breaking the user agreement...which is illegal. This is all part of the copyright. So, if you wanted to install the same OS on multiple PC's, you have to purchase more keys from the software company. Of course, it is impossible to detect if you are using the software on multiple PC's unless they are 1) connected to the internet, in which case , ex.. microsoft CAN actually detect what key you are using 2) you register your illegal copy with the company.

There is the explanation for why it is illegal, class dismissed.
