OK here are some very early impressions:
-The weapons feel very tight. You can move fairly fast while in iron sight mode, which is good IMO. You can also bring up iron sights fast, so you actually do develop a habit of iron sighting as you strafe around a corner
-The sounds in this game are awesome. Gunshots in the distance sound far away, as do grenades. Firefight close up sounds loud and satisfying.
-The environments during large firefights are very well done. A LOT of dirt gets kicked up from bullets, and at many times it reminds me of the movie Black Hawk Down.
-The 3rd person animations are a little weak, but they will be fixing that. The death animations, on the other hand, are some of the best I've ever seen.
-The bullet penetration is awesome. There's one particular map with a 2 story wooden frame building. I was an insurgent with an RPK, and saw 6 Marines run in the 2nd floor of the building. I knew they would be near the windows, so I emptied an entire drum on the building. Watching the particles and dust fly off and cover the building was awesome. Even more awesome: I killed all 6 Marines in that building. VERY satisfying.
-The structure of the game is confusing. There's no map to look at, so you have no idea where the cap zones are. That is, until your squad commander gives you an order to attack a cap zone. This feature seems frustrating, but I think it was done on purpose to promote team play. You really have to rely on your commander to know what's been capped, and what caps the enemy may be controlling. It forces you to stay in a tight squad for the most part, because if you don't, you probably will not cap at all. I like that.
-There's no death messages, except to let you know if any of your teammates die. You don't ever have a confirmation when you kill an enemy, so it makes advancing a little suspenseful as you never really know if that bullet penetrated through that sandbag or not. That's a cool feature.
Overall, this game definitely reminds me of America's Army. However, it's a much faster, more hectic version of America's Army. It promotes more team cooperation than AA, and you don't have to empty an entire mag to kill somebody in this game like you do with AA. I'd say this game is a good mix of DoD:S (the cap-cased play), America's Army (approach to realism), and MOHAA CKR-style (bullets go where you want them to; usually 1 shot kills). I think it's certainly a nice fusion of game styles. It's not a great game, but it's a good game, and certainly the best game I've seen for a first release mod that's still a Beta. The issues with the game are already recognized by the mods (like the goofy animations) and they're already working on making the gameplay tighter. I'd recommend trying it out.
