I haven't seen the movie but health care here is not free. I pay a monthly premium to the government of Alberta for Alberta health care. It's like $44 a month or something. I don't think government covers Dental expenses, but I have insurance through my work and I think they cover 80%. So I have to pay 20% of my dental visits.

If you go to a walk in clinic, all you have to do is show your Alberta health care card. I guess you could see that doctor for dermatology issues, but I think if you wanted to see a real dermatologist, you would have to pay.

The Canadian system is far from perfect. Wait times in the ER can be hours. Most of the hospitals are overcrowded and there are too many people to fit in all the rooms, so many people line the hallways. There are not enough doctors either.

If you have a serious life threatening problem, you will get attention right away. If you have chest pains and go to an ER, they take you right in and start examining you. If you can wait, you'll wait, and wait.

So to answer your questions, no, Dentist and Dermatology visits are not free. You have to see a private practice.
