When people connect to gamespy, they are given a list of servers ip numbers. Their gamespy program then does a getstatus against each server to find out how many players are playing, the current maps, etc.

Each of those getstatus lines is a players computer retrieving the state of your server.

(This isn't limited to gamespy..All Seeing Eye and any other program that connects on the 12300 port will generate that message)
