Default Lariam used in armies around the world - 10-17-2002, 11:50 PM

Just watching a program on Lariam. Its a drug that is given to troops who go overseas to protect from malaria. This is pretty disturbing. They said that those guys from the US who killed thier wives did so in connection with Lariam. The Canadian Airborne Troops in Somalia took Lariam, which resulted in them torturing and killing a local. They said that up to 40% of people have some sort of adverse reaction to the drug while the Department of Defence says its more like 1 in 10,000. Any way this is scary stuff. They said people see vibrant freaky colours, and you get nightmares like mutluating people. They interviewed a trooper that said when he took it he killed a sheep or something because it was making an annoying noise. The drug makes you very aggressive. The other side of not taking is it you might get malaris and die a horrible death.

Canada and the US used Lariam in Afghanistan while other countries like UK, Germany and Australia used an alternative.

Hopefully we can find an alternative that works with no so side effects like Lariam has with it.

I suppose you guys should whatch what the army is telling you to take when you guys get rollin to other countries and such.

Lariam is also called Mefloquine is your curious.

Heres a site with a ton of articles:
