Default Win XP - 10-30-2002, 06:44 PM

When i bought my computer and installed MOH it worked GREAT , It still does ,but now even though my FPS and ping are there there seems to be a noticeable downgrade if performance. I asked some folks at work, and they explained that the number of programs running in the background can affect game performance.

That i should Check my task manager and shut down any programs running.
in addition check the number of processes running and shut down the unnecessary ones.

Is this true? and if so what processes should i turn off to increase performance? There must be at least 50 exe. files, and im not sure what the bare minimum for the computer, and the game to run should be.

Or should i just leave it alone?

This is very true. And a rule of thumb.
I shut down everything except for my anti virus.

You have to be careful not to shut down something important. Memory is pretty dam cheap right now. If you bump up your ram to 512 you won't ever have to worry about it.

Totally agree. You can probably find a gas station giving out 256 meg chips with a fill up of 10 gal. or more. LOL

Yeah the old DIMM SDRAM which a lot of us are still using is dirt cheap now. But the newer DDR and RDRAM is a bit more expensive , especially the RD.
Did I see some one say they shut down everything except the anti-virus ??
I think the game instructions say specificly to shut down the anti-virus.
The only thing you need running is Explorer and Sys Tray, and maybe your mouse software if you are using a 5 button with the leans assigned. Also I think XP has a built in firewall with can cause problems.

I would think getting more RAM would solve your problem.

I have XP Home. Whatever XP loads at the beginning runs in the background. My antivirus, popup stopper, instant messenger and Teamspeak are also running. I've got 1024MB RAM and MOHAA runs without any degradation of performance.

I run Delator and autokick while playing and notice no problems, but I guess my 1 gig of DDR pc2700 helps biggrin:
I always say the more the better, so buy it when it's cheap it always helps.

While playing MOH, you should turn off your Virus Scanner, the Auto-Scan. This is a task that runs in the background of your PC, and is the main resource hog for computers. Once done gaming, just turn it back on.
