Default WWII Medals - 07-11-2005, 04:12 PM

Do any of you guys know of any websites that can help me identify medals and ribbons from WWII? I just got back from my grandmother's house and she gave me a bunch of my grandfather's stuff from when he served in the army during WWII. She had no idea what they signify.

Post pictures of some of your WWII memorabilia.

I bought a green Army jacket from the thrift store (ARC - Association for Retarded Children..not that their mass amounts of profit actually go to them..) with the name "BOWER" on it, and the badge on the side is a multicolored pyramid, which I googled, and happened to signify troops that were in Africa during WW2. I also found a pack of matches within the pocket dating back to the 40's, which I got incredibly pissed over after it got lost in the wash.

I have a book for that sort of thing but I don't know where it is. I have a bunch of my great uncle's stuff around here, but I don't know where that is either. He was a flight engineer in a B17 in WW2, 8th AF I believe. I have some parts from B17s along with a bunch of his medals and decorations since he was in the USAF for 40+ years.

Hey Coleman,
This should give you what you need. You might have to click around a little to find the right ones...

....You bought a jacket from a thrift store, and found matches from the 40s in the pocket?

Hard to believe that during a long 60 year circulation, NOONE checked the pockets.... oOo:

i've got a metric-shitload of stuff from my granddad's 3-war tour in the USAF. no digi camera as of now, but i'll have to grave-dig this thread up when i get it. but mostly it's army good conduct from when the USAF was a branch in the US Army (US Army AirForces.) and some assorted medals for participation in various campaigns in WWII, and some from Korea, and we dont have any from his 'Nam tour, cause he was in Oakinawa. I have bought a Vietnam-era Helmet, kept my granddad's uniform from the 60's, bought a USAF work shirt, old combat boots, olivedrab tobaggan for winter, a camo boonie hat for summer, and various stuff. some pictures from his service, and my other granddad's pictures from the air force are all owned by my damn cousins and uncle, only seen one of them. also bought a olive drab jacket and sewed Tech Sgt stripes on it and USAF patch on left breast pocket.
