College, and the visits.

Well guys, Im nearing that age/year where I graduate from high school. Ive been looking into colleges for sometime now and Im going on quite a few visits during August and early this coming school year. Ill spend a week at the University of San Fransico, a week at Providence College in Rhode Island, and a week with my other cousin who just graduated from Loyola in Maryland (Him and his friends rented a brownstone down town overlooking the stadium where the Ravens play - it shall be sick). This should give me a big idea about these schools but I also intend to look into Penn State, Hobart William Smith, Villanova, University of Maryland, Madison, Virginia Tech (possibly), and the University of Georgia (a short list- its much longer). I have no idea what I want to do or major in...maybe Ill go undecided. What colleges do you guys suggest? I can probably get into all of the above no problem. A avg...and too many extracurriculars not to mention a shitload of volunteer work happy: so I am in good shape. Anyways, get back to me...and I know this will be useful to some others too.

obviously, I'd recommend PSU. But what state are you in? I see that you're interested in stuff all around the nation...what is your budget like? Villanova is a pretty hefty price tag there. If you are not sure what you want to major in at the moment, I would suggest a large school, obviously, so you can have some moving ability.

What do you want in the college?
What's your budget?
Are you interested in any sports?
Do you care if you can come home only 3 times a year?

I visited the University of Maryland and it was very nice. I had basically 3 complaints about the school: 1.) the campus is realllllly spread out. It's huge. There isn't any transportation system other than your own two feet. 2.) Dorms---it takes freshman up to 40min to walk to some areas of the campus. The dorms were pretty small too. 3.) The food selection was pretty shitty.

I dont know about you but I prefer the small campus style where you know just about everyone and you can wake up 2 minutes before class and still get there early.

My family would be able to send me anywhere, regardless of the pricetag that follows. Sports really arent much of a big deal, I highly doubt I will continue on with tennis at the college level although I might be able too. What do I want in a college is REALLY hard to say at the moment. I havent visited anyschools so I havent gotten the feel of any at all, large or small, private or public. Do you know what Im saying...Ive visited a handful of schools. I was at Haverford for a few hours partly because my aunt lives in Ardmoore which is right next door to the Villanova and haverford campuses. I didnt like thow it was SO tiny, it was smaller than my high school. I live in Syracuse New York and spend alot of time in the city and on the SU campus. Im always there for the basketball games ect and my friends and I have pretty nasty seats at the football games . Ill be spending alot more time on the actual campus because 2 or 3 of my friends were accepted there. Ill be in the dorms and everyhting so sometime in the next few months Ill be able to tell you if I like the size or not. I wouldnt want to go there because its TOO close to home, there are some really good california colleges that Id look into, and Ive heard nothing but good things from my cousin who is at USF. She just got an apartment and absolutely loves it..she tells me the city is amazing as well. ALL of my cousins loved where they went, the one attending PC couldnt be happier. He says Rhode Island is lawless and all mob-run so you dont have to worry about much in terms of police ed: . Ill have to check out U of Maryland...that would def suck having to walk though throughout a campus THAT large. I guess its nothing compared to the Hobart William Smith Campus either. I wouldnt mind not coming home ALL the time either, 3 times a year isnt that great but I would assume I would make up for it during summer..who knows.

I went to the U of MD. The campus isn't really spread out, its just damn big. It is contiguous, which I prefer to the campuses that are spread out here and there through a town, like Chapel Hill. There are shuttle buses that run all over the campus. The only time that they are put to use is when you want to go from the freshman high rises to the bars on Route 1. happy:

It is a great school to go to if you don't know what you're into right now. There is plenty to choose from and several top 20 courses of study. The social life is great, ACC sports, 15 minutes by from College Park metro station to anywhere in DC.

You're right about the food though.

Did I mention the nice ass. Plenty of that walking around. Those other schools sound like good choices as well, just don't go to PSU or VA Tech. They're in the middle of nowhere, unless you consider State College/Altoona & Blacksburg happening places.

great academics, most of our programs are in the top 10 in the nation, gives you alot of flexibility. Beautiful campus, beautiful city, beautiful women, lots of booze.
