Default Your first car - 09-17-2005, 09:36 AM

After reading the post about the guy looking for his first car i thought it might be cool to hear about others first car. You younger guys should get a kick out of what the older guys bought for their first cars.

Mine was 54 ford, straight 6 with 3 on the tree.( 3 speed transmission with the shifter on the steering colum for you younger guys)

ill see if i can find a pick and post it . i dont have any of the exact car but ill find something for an example. That car was the biggest piece of crap ever but i couldnt have been more proud of it!!!

Also post how much you paid for it...

Hahah, my parents used to own one of those. We donated the p.o.s. to the Red Cross.

Im not getting my liscense for another year, and probably wont be getting a car for another 3, but my dad has basically told me what car he wants me to buy..this one:

Yeah, a Beetle. A good, responsive yet slow and stable car. I was looking at this '77 Porsche Boxster a couple miles away at a used car lot, but my dad just puked on me, saying he knows I'd be dead the next day if I got it. He doesnt really trust me that well.

What I REALLY want though... is one of those hippie-mobiles. I mean, jeeze, I used to ride in my neighbors and her kids little bus back in California - insanely comfortable. The seats were couch like, we could lay on the giant floor, sleep up in the bunk... just an awesome, awesome car.

Unfortunately... its pretty damn hard to find any around. They're collectibles now, and nobody is willing to give 'em up.

It's all I'll need. Just something to get me to the grocery store, friends house, and to school.

Kinda amazing, down in Mexico, the old Beetles were just released, so its almost like EVERYONE has one. They're the poor-mans cars, and they've got totally "new" (not up to date, but newly manufactured) parts, but if you go down they're, you're bound to see one.

Beetles are cheaper up here in the States, though, especially used.

1984 Toyota Tercel, except in white. I have a pic of me in it somewhere, but I'll have to search for it. It was a great car. 4 speed manual. only 50,000 miles! Great on gas and fun to drive!

Then I got my 89 Daytona, and now i've got a 2000 Impala. Three Cars in about 6 years!
