Default Going to pull trigger on GeForce4 ti 4600 128mb, but WHICH ? - 08-18-2002, 01:13 PM

I want to buy a g4 ti 4600. Which are the better brands?

I dont have a DVD drive but I figure I will ultimately get a better computer and just move the card over when I do.

Which one should I buy? I dont know the different brands and why one might be better than another.

thanks

Why don't you just get a GF4 TI 4200 and overclock it?

because a) things are made to be overclocked, from what I read it causes other problems. and b) they will be obsolete sooner when newer generations of games come out.

a friend has a 200 the BF1942 multiplayer demo can barely keep up with it as it is.

I dont mind spending the $250-$275 for the card, I just need to know which brands are the most trustworthy, and if there is any spec I should be looking at.

For instance, I don't really need TV out but I might someday so I think I will get it, but for games and photoshop etc, is there some trick to know which 4600 ti 128 mb is best for that stuff?

What are you talking about? Can't keep up with the demo? It runs great on my GeForce 2 MX400, it even runs decent on a GeForce 2 MX420 PCI!

If you are going for a GeForce 4, I would recommend the XFX GeForce 4 Ti4200 128MB card. I found it on http://www.newegg.com and some people said it was one of the best as far as overclocking goes.

Heh, your kidding right ?? A 4200 will never reach the specs, ie, core clock and memory clock speeds of a 4600, even if it is maxed out. A 4400 will be lucky to reach the core/mem clock speeds of a 4600 without graphics glitches and crashes happening every few seconds.

I got an ASUS Geforce4 Ti 4400, it works pretty damn good. The only real thing holding back my 3D Marks is the Motherboard and CPU. It overclocks pretty well and is stable while overclocked.

Look for MSI, ASUS, Gainward, Creative, Leadtek/Winfast. All those are pretty good, I got the ASUS because it was the only one available and ASUS are pretty damn reliable. If you want good overclockability, nice big heatsinks and fans and pure power, go for the Leadtek/Winfast.

The only other thing to consider. when purchasing a card from these manufactures.

Do you want or need the bundled software? Most of these cards are 99% that same. Your better off looking at who has better tech support or you feel more comfortable with.

I have the PNY Ti4600 and purchased this because, it was the 1st one released.

good luck you will be very happy with this card.

I usually just get the stuff with just the card and a CD. No box or other shit. It saves at least $30 there.

Whatever, I just don't see the point in paying alot of extra money when you CAN overclock the ti4200 to speeds that are close to the ti4600.

[quote:d818e]As seen above in the RivaTuner screenshot, the maximum limitation of the card was found to be a core frequency of 300MHz and a memory frequency of 553MHz. In doing so, the card has matched the core frequency of a GeForce4 Ti 4600 and has landed in the realm of GeForce4 Ti 4400 memory frequencies. As expected, the Samsung memory paid no attention to its theoretical limit of 500MHz. Undoubtedly, the combination of the "A3" core and the incredible heatsink were directly responsible for the stunning core frequency. When compared with the stock frequencies, the overclocked configuration returned a score that was roughly 9% faster![/quote:d818e]

Even if it isn't capable totally of what you are saying, I wouldn't want to shell out $100 or even $200 more when you can get a great card still. I wouldn't care about an extra 50 or so MhZ on a core clock or some shit, overclock it, or just live with it. That is just my opinion.

OR, you could all go out and buy yourselves the new ATI Radeon 9700 which decimates all, including Geforce 4 Ti 4600's I should have waited and bought a 9700, meh. Maybe a bit later, or I'll wait for the NV30's to come out before I upgrade again. Either way, the 9700 0wNz j00 !! This coming from an nVidia user must mean something oOo:

one thing that seems to be somewhat of a misconceptions with the geforce4 series, is that you need a 300w PSU to run them.

this is untrue, i currently run a gainward gf4 ti4200 in 100w.

although, i dont have much else in my system.

Yes, but who has the money to shell out $300-$400 when new stuff comes out every time. That's just geting too ridiculous. I went from a TNT2 to a GeForce2. I sure don't have the money to get ANYTHING great like that.
