A fireside chat... -
10-13-2002, 12:52 AM
The aa.com forums are my "home" in the MoHAA community, I know I've met more folks thru here than anywhere else. I recently did a couple of interviews that might interest a couple people out there, one with The Modding Theatre[/url:66dbc] and one with Planet Medal of Honor[/url:66dbc] where I join Crow King in their Hall of Fame. So kick back and enjoy a chat with me. biggrin:

Awwww I read that under a douvai sipping warm co-co with my feet in bunny slippers hehehe
Thanx for continuing support with MOHAA, alot of people including myself would stop playing these games if it wasnt for the dedication and hard work of you and other members of this forum, stamping out cheaters.
Good work...

hey one thing DogMeat said in those interviews was (paraphrasing) "i like the slower paced fps's like moh more than the twich kind, even though i have played the twich kind"
well i noticed he might not be the only one because as far as i can tell UT2003 has kinda adopted a quake 3 twich style of gameplay and it is not as popular as MOH and it is not even as popular as the origional UT! and this is even though it has what seems to be a great (although somewhat demanding) engine...

Yep I noticed that in the demo, f*ck it was like playing `duke nukem` after mohaa, I hate it when you can run into a room and spin 720 degrees in air jumping off the walls to avoid bullets, oh wait thats matrix lol
You know what I mean tho, the slow realism pace of mohaa was refreshing to see(+ I can hit someone occasionally with a weapon). Trying to hit someone whos bouncing all over the place is ok if you like that sort of thing, personally after tasting mohaa I have a real hard time going back to these faster first person shooters.
OMG im really getting old? Soon it will be "NO I only like `these` type of games" and before I know it ill only be playing space invaders and cursing teenagers!
Tell me im young?
p ;)

thanks lysis!
Regarding "twitch" style games, I find those are really the most fun for me at a home LAN party style gaming session. It's interesting to mentally review the various gameplay styles and pacing associated with FPS's, especially id's Doom/Quake series and Raven Soft's Heretic/Hexen series. Twitch can definately be a blast, especially when you get zoned into it and become one with the twitch, destroying all who oppose.
fire2:
Funny you should mention UT, that is definately one I enjoy for both it's fast paced DM games and it's capture the flag play. I must say the UT2k3 demo did impress me as faster paced DM, and I'd definately give it a high twitch rating. Since I'm not keeping up on the news for UT2k3 this may be totally wrong, but I'd venture a guess that this is mainly going to be a showcase for the engine, building on the base of the earlier UT game of course. Is there even a single player, I haven't heard anything but MP talk.
Not that MoHAA can't be fast paced as a twitch shooter at times, but the gameplay options lend themselves towards a slower pace, especially Obj/RbDM. With the official Tug-of-War mode *cough*[FLARE]Ravir[/url:2f18c]*cough* coming out in Spearhead, we'll be able to do a continuous battle over a larger territory, pacing which I hope will promote strategy and teamplay playstyles. Plus I have a few ideas of my own I'd like to implement along these lines, the auto-balance is merely the first (and probably the coarsest) of these.

Selfish propaganda, DogMeat! lol
Nah, great interviews man. It's good that word gets around about some of the AA.COM'ers who are working on tools to make this game better, as Rude said.

Oh yea i was talking with someone and they mentioned multiplayer in MOH was kind of an afterthought, and this reminded me how Dogmeat said the same thing in his interview...
And yet I think MOH multiplayer is very good, surprisingly good!
it is i think the second most played online game and has been 2nd for
a while...
Games like UT2003 (which i play and like don't get me wrong) are based soley around multiplayer but it isn't being played as much online as MOH the afterthought!
------------
also, UT2003 single player is basically the same as multiplayer but with bots... and you may be right about it being at least partly a showcase for the engine, included with the game are a bunch of tools to help people edit stuff, and the game includes a map called "vehicle demo" where u can drive around a vehicle but i don't think there are any vehicles in the regular game i guess its just there to show people what can be done with the engine...
