Router probs PLZ HELP! -
10-24-2002, 11:16 AM
I have the SMC 7004ABR router and i cant get the server to work even if i open up all the ports, so I used the DMZ version instead but I have two servers so this wont work in the long run.
So I need help with some stuff.
1. When i use the DMZ the server wont show up on ase
2. When i open up the ports the servers wont work at all.
When I used a plain switch it worked fine, but the switch broke down and I got this router.
These are the ports that I'm using/opened up:
UDP: 12203, 12300, 6500, 6515, 27900, 13139, 12201, 12210
TCP: 28900, 29900, 29901 and 8245 for the no-ip.com client
what should I do?? PLZ help!
By the way I've searched the forum before posting this and nothing worked for me..=(

When you open these ports are you forwarding them to the specific server running the MOH game? You, not only open ports but you have to forward then to the appropriate computer.
Couple of things to keep in mind. also I'm not too familiar with this type of router.
1) you have to have both outgoing ports open and incoming ports open and forwarded to the server.
2) you should be able to run one in the DMZ. A router's DMZ has all ports open in and out.
3) if your place one box in the DMZ and one behind the router. Only one will show up on GS or ASE. To use both computers as servers. you will need to assign different ports to each computer. One will run on the default 12203 port the other you will need to run on, say 12204. you will need to know how to setup your server.cfg file to accommodate this.
4) What is your connection? a fat cable connection can only host 4-7 clients let alone two servers or even a server and a client on the same connection.
5) check with your routers web site. Your most likely going to need the latest firmware.
I personally think you will need to open both in and out. along with forwarding your incoming ports to the server behind the router. I run a linksys router. not the best but by far the easiest router to use with a game server. My netgear router and Cisco router are both setup with filters for both incoming and outgoing traffic. These routers are much harder to setup and this is why, I use the linksys for other game servers.
Good luck this will not be easy.

Thx for the help, it looks like im in for a war of my own.....
I tried different ports for the servers. 12203 for the public and 12210 for the matchserver. It didnt work. Guess I'll start with the firmware and work my way up from there.
Just some info: The servers are connected by a swedish company here in sweden (duuh) called BredBandsBolaget, BBB, in english, the BroadBandCompany and they provide real broad band, not just the regular doped up tele-line called ADSL =). It's 10Mbit up and down so it works just fine =). (I just had to tell u this =))
Thx for the help yet again, think i got some idea how to solve this now anyway.
Oh, almost forgot. I opened up both in and out, and it worked fine with one of them, but when a try to ad the other servers ip and ports, i got a conflict.
Like this
ip triggerport udp/tcp publicport(s) udp/tcp
192.168.2.14 12203 udp 12300,6500,6515etc. udp
192.168.2.14 12203 udp 28900,29900,29901 tcp
second server
192.168.2.21 12210 udp same as above udp
192.168.2.21 12210 udp same as above tcp
This makes the first server to work fine, anyone can connect but it only shows up on GS and not ASE.
The second server wont work at all, seems like the setup can't handle a different ip with the same ports...why is that?

Right if you only have one IP address from your provider, you will get some conflicts.
You should be able to get it to work by opening in and out ports related to the game port to specify within the server.cfg file for the send server. It will never show up on game spy because you already have those needed ports being forward to the other private IP address.
You can try request a second public IP but I don't know if you can bind that second IP to the router's public side. ( your servers are connected to the private side and thus you can connect 254 computers up on the private side.
You can bind multiple IPs to the same nic, this is how all those web providers put 100 web sites on the same box.
Good luck with your servers, sounds very interesting.

Yes and no. You need to be able to bind them all to the incoming or Public side of the router. Check with your routers manufacturer. See if you can give them a call or check there web site out
Good Luck
Man, I wish I had your provider. sounds like some very nice features
