Is this great news, sure, I guess, if it really relates to you. But dont be so sure about the NV30 and ATI's beating it. There is next to fucking NOTHING about the NV30 and anything that HAS been said about it is PURE SPECULATION, unless its actually come from Nvidia, and if its comes from them, that info would have been scarce. No conrete info has been released about it, so how can you possibly say NV30 will be a poor competitor, and get "owned" by ATI ??
I suggest you wait unti the NV30 is actually out before you start making assumptions. Because it may come around and bite you in the ass. I dont think Nvidia would be stupid enough to release a product with the same capabilities but just faster core and clock speeds.....If they release anything, it will surely surpass ATI's current crop of cards.
Is the 9700 good ?? Yeah, it's fast as hell, but dont speculate on something you have no idea about MONTHS before it's release.

Actually the "big bad" nv-30 will be showed off at comdex. Its been delayed so much that i expect it to perform marginally better than the 9700.
Whats gonna be fun and games for it though is the drivers. When nvidia released the geforce 256 sdr and ddr the drivers were pathetic. Loads of games didn;t work and it took nvidia months to actually get them working right. Biggest joke of this is that the original geforce was basically a souped up tnt 2 ultra with an onboard t&l engine. Nvidia already had their driver architecture from their previous boards but they still somehow managed to balls it up for around 3-4 months.
Now the nv-30 is completly New architecture. If nvidia were so incompetant with a design they had released before and still managed to screw up then nvidia releaseing a BRAND NEW chip with a new driver set should be really funny. Bit of advice for everyone, don't buy it for a few months as its bound to be riddled with driver bugs.
Nvidia are gonna literally rush this thing to market so i can almost guarantee drivers will be shoddy to say the least. They know ati is handing them their ass in the market right now and with ati's r-350 on the books for a pre christmas launch then its gonna look bad for nvidia if the r-350 gets released then the nv-30 is released and is actually slower then it.
As for nvidia's product line have a long hard look at it. Litrerally all their cards are built on the principle of speed and nothing else, geforce-geforce2-geforce2 ultra-all were nothing more than speed bumps over the previous card but were billed as having all ths new shit they could do.
Anti aliasing was something 3dfx came to market with, nvidia stated they "would not be committing resources to the development of anti aliasing". Well for a company that doesn't commit resources to it, its funny how they have their sub standard "quincunx" anti aliasing along with the normal method.
Mark my words when nvidia get their little old nv-30 to market it will barely be any faster than the radeon 9700. Enter the r-350 and nvidia are gonna be bent over again. biggrin:
