In keeping with the current trend around here. I'll talk about BF 1942. Where are the submarines in single player? Havnt seen one. Are they a multiplayer thing?
Let the BF 1942 sucks ass replies rain in. Im not a huge fan myself but i want to try out all the crap before i delete it.

I know there in Guadalcanal, Midway, and maybe couple other Pacific maps. They're a bitch to drive, slow, crappy firing,etc.. Stick with Planes and shit

I've played those maps and cant find em. Do i need to capture a certain control point or are they a spawn point like carriers or destroyers?

They are only in MP and only on Midway I believe.
When you spawn they should be there along with numerous other ships.
