Default Game stalls everytime I play - need help - 11-04-2002, 08:16 PM

Well, it seems I've been having this problem for quite sometime now. Everytime I play a game... it stalls. My drivers are updated so that's out of the question. It's wierd - it stalls randomly.

For example, I can play MOH:AA for 15 min and it will stall, and next time 10 min and it will stall.

I have a Geforce 2 MX 400 64 MB DDR - Right now I'm leaning towards my video card... any suggestions, comments?

What do you guys think? Any of you have the same problem, or ever did?

Well, I had the same video card, and all I can guess is maybe checking to see if anti-aliasing is on, or a weird refresh rate is set. Also, try lowering a resolution, that was a major problem for me in such games. Just a few suggestions, hope they help.

hmm I'm having somewhat of the same problem. When I try to even start it up, it just goes to a grey screen and doesn't load. This is prolly cause I listened to Slinky and unistalled my EAU file! DAMN YOU!

!! What? If you want to reinstall it go back and unzip the Mafia demo files and reinstall it from there in an EAX folder. I had no idea, and it was just a suggestion if you had sound problems.

maye it's the smoke. for soem reason it always slows down when smoke appears. it happens to all geforce cards. voodoo never had that problem and since they bought voodoo why dont they use voodoo's technology.

Well, yeah maybe Germ. On my old Gf2 I had turned off Volumetric smoke, and Dynamic Lighting, and all that stuff on the right in the advanced section except wall decals and one other thing I forget. Also, turn off shadows too if you need to. With that I got around 90 FPS at most times.

yep, I did all that stuff, I turned off shadows, lighting, the works.... EVERYTHING is on medium or turned off - I use 800x600 resolution. Plus this is not the only game that stalls... every game I have stalls on me.

I might take Gerards advise and go for a ATI, IF they are stable. Shit, I'd sacrifise "graphics" for frickin' stability. It drives me nuts when I can't play those $50 games I have..............

Any other suggestions, advise?

Here is my system specifications:
AMD ATHLON 1.2 GHZ
CREATIVE LABS ENSONIQ SOUND CARD
256 MB DDR
WIN 98SE

It's either my damn video card, or my sound...... who knows?

I've been trying to figure this problem out for like 6 months........

u got 1 ghz computer, that's good. u should be able to run games with good graphix like hitman 2 or unreal2 with high setting.

i got 750mhz 600mb ram and they run good. i think u should disable all backround running programs except sys trays. go to start, then run, and type in msconfig, after that go to startup tabs. uncheck all programs in list except sys tray then restart computer.

maybe it's your cd rom drive. is it quad speed?
