Default Spearhead install doesn't ask for my key#...big time problem - 01-08-2003, 07:37 PM

When I go to install Spearhead on my Win2K machine for some reason it does not ask for my key. Installation however still works. But when I click finish it reboots the machine instantly. M16: Now, the game is installed, but since the key was never put in, I can't apply the patch. It also won't uninstall without just deleting all the folders and registry entries.

Is there a way I could just enter the number somewhere in the registry or something??? Because the damn thing actually does install.

I've tried this in safe mode and deleting every task from running...just does not work. Tried it on a different computer from mine running Win98 and it installed just fine, asked for the key and everything.

Now I've played through the single player since it WAS installed but can't seem to get on any multi games without the patch. I'm ready to just get rid of this game but at the same time I'd like to know what's going on - next time it might be a game I actually care about...I'd be really frustrated if this was happening to MOHAA itself.

run32.dll does not show up as a running task on this machine or I would do that... If run32.dll is running under some other guise I'm not going to be able to do anything about it...because the only remaining processes can't be shut down. And I did this in safe mode too, nothing works.

Could run32.dll be running and not showing up somehow?? Geez why does the install on this one have to be such a problem.

if rundll32 isn't showing up then try exporting the registry from the windows 98 install into your win2k box.

Uh I'm not sure exactly what you mean to do...and how would I go about it? Willing to try it unless it messes up either system.

You're probably right in that it's something just like run32.dll doing this, only explanation I can think of, but I can't close any of those other tasks. I've deleted every other thing from automatically starting except Norton AV but that is disabled right now.

BTW this wouldn't have anything to do with the Audigy 2 card I put in the other day would it? Plays the game just fine but I did notice my speaker settings are switched every time the machine gets reset by the installshield.

DAMN! - Why didn't you say so. AUDIGY is a known cause of installation problems for EA products. You'll need to swap that out for onboard sound before you can install MOH.

You need to go into your BIOS settings and turn of "SOUND CACHING", and make sure u have "AUDIO MHZ" set to "Equalized" - that should do it for you.

I've been through this bit of business before - after you install you can put that AUDIGY back in and continue gaming.

angel:

Thanks everyone! It's the Audigy 2 for sure. Removed it and the install went okay without resetting the system this time. By the way, it worked without physically removing the card - just disabled it in DM until I was done. Oddly it still did not ask for the CD key but maybe it was in there from before when I registered the game. And I did click on the eReg program for that too, don't know whether it did anything.

But anyway the patch installed fine and the game seems to run a little better now. I'm not totally crazy about Spearhead but the SP had some good moments and I want to run through it again and try the multi...

By the way is this Creative's problem or InstallShields??? Because it sucks. Probably would have kept the SB Live if I had known this ahead of time. THanks again!!

Audigy 2 causes conflict with MOH? That's lame. I hope EA knows about it.

That too. I have high expectations of this patch, sopposed to have almost double the amount of fixes that the 1st had, and it's sopposed to speed up the frames a little bit. All rumor right now, though.

This doesn't affect my MOH at all...it's just the SH install that gives me grief. By the way though, don't know if it's strictly an EA issue - installed the Bloodrayne demo the other day and the same problem with Installshield (reset my system) although I got that one to work by simply turning off Norton AV.

Someone needs to fix this issue though...
