Default Is this normal? - 02-14-2003, 11:16 AM

Hey everyone hows it going

I had a GeForce2 videocard and I was getting an average of about 70 fps so I went ahead and bought a GeForce 4 ti4200 and i was expecting to stay in the 90's or even pass the 100's but Im still staying at my average 60-70 and when Im in fire fights it even goes down to 20-30.I really want my money worth on this card or maybe its not even the card and something wrong with my pc but I dont think so because I just had a sytem restore abour 3 weeks ago.Anyone else have this same problem or know how to fix it?

Thanks ed:

RAM (Random Access Memory) is totally different from your hardrive. Deleting unused programs won't do anything as far as your fps problem is concerned.

Did you tweak your card's settings at all? If you did maybe you need to tone it down a bit and see if that helps at all.

Well you might need more physical RAM, so uninstalling might not fix the problem.

I suggest running Auto-Configure in the MOH directory.

Here's a link that will provide you some info on RAM and how it works.

http://computer.howstuffworks.com/ram.htm

Hope this helps. As a good rule of thumb. More is always better. Just be sure your motherboard will support the amount you want to put on there.

I seem to remember, a long time ago, it being said that MoH doesn't have the files needed to support gf4 so by upgrading to it you won't really get faster speeds (I have a gf3 64mb, 1.67Mhz Athlon XP and 512 DDR ram and my game flies over 90fps).

There is a way to sort this out but I cannot for the life of me remember how or what it is.

But, certainly, upgrading RAM and your CPU will always speed your game up, as already suggested by others here.

It's just that a gf4 on its own will not speed up MOH at all because the game engine code doesn't take advantage of the new technology (GF4 came out after MoH did, effectively).

Sorry, I disagree. When I upgraded my old pc I couldnt afford a new vid card at the time. I got much increased frame rate with my gf2ti due to new processor, ram etc. I then got much improved frame rate again when i upgraded to my ti4200. No special tweaks needed.

It sounds like you have a bottleneck somewhere, but its hard to tell with out your full specs.

K-9, try upping your game-rate. If you have Cable then the rate should be 10000. Trying upping it to 25000. If you have DSL then the rate should be 25000. Trying upping it to 40000. While some servers have a set maxrate cvar running, in most, you can get away with it. This higher rate gives you a better connection rate to the game and improves your FPS. I know this b/c one time I accidentally set mine to 4000 instead of 40000, and my ping doubled and my FPS went down dramatically. I couldn't figure out why until I checked my rate. Instant I changed it back to normal, everything went back up.

You can also try typing max_comfps 250 in the console. This can bump up your FPS by 10-15.

Thats about all I know regarding game commands to boost your FPS, and I have the same exact vid-card as you. Good luck.

::no edit button:: oOo:

To set your rate, just open the console and type "rate #" without the quotes.
