open photoshop
open the pic
press ctrl + T
grip the box in one of the corners and hold down shift to keep the proportions
lastly move the box til desired size

1. Select the big white area with the magic wand, then select inverse, then go Image > Crop.

-or-

Go to Image > Trim. The default options should be fine.

2. Then resize the remaining thing with Image > Size.

Either way, you should just start off with an image the right size you want.

Like this. I saved it as a gif to make use of transparency, but I'm not sure it did anything.

Nice sig. I like the background. MAybe if you played with the contrast, saturation, etc. you could make the name a little easier to read.
