Seriously, Earth Day is a celebration of the Earth (duh), which hopes to bring awareness to environmental issues.

In elementary school, on earth day, we had to plant a tree every year. It's just a day to give back to the earth, that's all.

Same thing up here. Every year we would take a field trip to a nearby forest and tree nursery (yes, a tree nursery eek: ) take a guided walk through the forest, and get our trees just before we left. Then we would go home and plant them some where in our yards, a couple of mine are still here, and doing quite well.
