favorite IL-2 Forgotten Battles plane (by year) -

for those of you who got FB, what's your favorite and or least favorite plane plane and why?
For early war (1941-June '42) my fave is the I-16, sure it's slow but it's damn manuverable and powerful enough to give Jerry a headache from a medium burst.
For this same period the P-40 is a pig in a dogfight, but nothing and I mean NOTHING can stand up to those 6 .50cals for over one second, so that plane is a close second.
I absolutely hate the Mig-3, it is not very manuverable (more than P-40 but still a pig), and it's one .50 cal and 2 .30 cals just don't cut it with me. It's fine if you have unlimited ammo on, but otherwise you can't kill more than one or two planes with it.
For medium war (late 1942 through mid 44) I have to say that the La-5 is my choice: fast, nimble, and armed with two 20mm cannon, when I get Focke-Wulfs in a dogfight, they do not last for over 30 seconds.
P-39 is fast, somewhat manuverable, but it's 37mm kickass cannon makes it a primo choice for exterminating kraut bombers.
Late war is the Yak-3 hands down it is fast, super-manuverable and it's armament, while not the best in the world, is good enough to do the job.
I have to constantly keep the throttle back on this honey of a fighter to keep from overshooting the Germans.
BTW. Is it just me or are the German fighters real pigs in a dogfight? (ie. not manuverable, underpowered, etc)

ya a lot of ppl are complaining about the fm (flight models) for the german planes in FB (forgotten battles). still, this is by far the best ww2 combat sim ever created...its even better than IL-2 which i thought would be tough to beat. I enjoy flying the I-16 as well, the manual gear is fun. I mostly like to fly bombers though, because it is so exciting and rewarding when your flyin a heinkel 111-H and you drop those 4 sc 500 pounders on the enemy's base, and its cool to have fighter support around you. I love flying the TB-3 and dropping the 5000 pound "nuke" lol. fantastic game...i eventually want to get a saitek x35 hotas and pedals! evil:

I think the next sequel will be Western Front, there are more American and British planes in FB than in IL-2 and there is even an American mission.
The reason I think there will be another sequel is the complete American pilot voices. You don't create complete series of voices (there is as much variety in phrases as the Russian and German ones) for the sake of ONE MISSION.
so either there'll be a patch with more US missions, or another expansion is on the horizon.

I usually avoid 1941 or earlier
1942 the P-40 or the Hurricane
1943 the P-47
1944 the FW-190A-8, P-47 or LA-5FN
I agree with the migs except the mig-3U, which I find to be the most manuverable for 1942
but I hate the yaks

the flight models are accurate, the people that complain about them just don't know how to fly the planes correctly. The German planes are supposed to be just fast "hit and run" types, the russians planes are better at turning. Most people in German planes try to out turn the Russians and get out turned themselves, which leds them to believe that the Germans are inaccurately modelled.

Forgotten Battles is an expansion or a stand alone game?
