Default what takes more skill... - 04-28-2003, 12:18 PM

I thought I would bring back the endless debate of what takes more skill: realism or stock.

From personal experience I have to say realism. Simply because after playing realism for a while I just own everyone in stock.

It seems that realism forced me to start shooting everyone in the head (since that is sometimes the only body part you see in realism). So switching to stock I have no problem with any enemy, even the shotgun whores everyone complains about.

i personally prefer stock just b/c of the springfield sniper ,and how heavy the darn thing is. For ex; when im running with that dat thing out in the open on realism just walking along, then all of a sudden i hear an stg 44 firing off behind me from the east and b4 i can react im dead.( this is when playing with realism btw)On stock mode or whateva u want to call it, i actually have a chance to turn around and at least get a shot off on them. Btw for some reason on some of those realism servers in stalingrad(my fav map) when im trying to crouch in the room above the basement i cant b/c it makes me jump up and down for some reason from the crouching position to the standing position but im not sure why though hmmmm

Hmm, old topic indeed.

I play both modes but ultimately prefer stock.

I'll only play realism if I am playing against people I know.

So long as you have a decent machine and a good connection neither requires more skill.

Bottom line is this:

In realism it's easier to kill but harder to stay alive.

In stock it's easier to stay alive but harder to kill.

In realism the weapons are much closer to eachother, and yet less balanced.

In stock the weapons are all very unique and yet offer more of a balance in game-play.

I have never thought to myself: "Ah, this mod takes no skill, I prefer to play Stock because it's harder/easier"

I always think: "Ah, this is boring as fuck. I wanna play stock!".

Just me, really. I always find that 30 minutes of realism my head starts to numb from the boredom of point/click mentality. See enemy, point, click, dead. Hide. Repeat.

In stock fights between two or more players can last ages as you try to out-wit eachother. In realism most fights are over before you realised they started.

Much more realistic, but in my opinion, a lot less fun.

This is why I don't really enjoy DoD. I'm sure I could get good at it if I practiced, but why play a game that you don't enjoy?

I don't think the skill factor comes into it.

They just take different skills. Realism is the quick draw (point and click) while stock is how well can I manage ammo, short bursts and continuos aim. I tend to get a little lazy in stock. Realism forces you to utilize cover more.

actually stock is who will win this leanstrafing street-dancing point-blank scoped bolt action rifle contest, how many guys can i mow down with my shotgun or can i use all my rockets before i die while some guy adept at realism tries to use the pistol to kill people.

i like stock better because on realism, you'll be dead before you even realize your in a fight, just like Ydiss said. And the Axis always use StG, runjning down firing away. And its stupid little things in realism. I did a test with some people i knew on a realism server. We took a pistol and shot me in the foot and arms. 2 shot to arms to die, 2 shots to leg to die. WTF?

Hah! I've seen it all now.

How about this for realism?

Just had the pleaure of wasting 20 minutes of my life on some listen SH server (you know, host has 0 ping).

I joined and was instantly laughed at for my name "Spearhead". I advised them that I so infrequently play the game that I never bothered changing it yet and that I had played MoH:AA for some time.

I then get a flood of "SH is way better than MoH" style quips. Moaning about how the graphics in MOH:AA weren't as good as in SH.

I didn't bother to remind them that the graphics were exactly the same, besides a few basic texture differences.

I am asked where I come from. "UK" I say. "Another foreigner" is the reply.

The server was, of course, based in the UK.

So, I then realise that there's something iffy when a shotgunner is firing as fast as the garand.

I then realised the G43 or whatever is similar. A semi auto sniper rifle? I asked.

That isn't very balanced.

The admin (A girl, no less - not surprising I suppose) then proceeded to tell me that she thought it was balanced.

Of course there was lots of recoil on the axis sniper so it was realistic.

I see... But surely a semi automatic sniper rifle isn't realistic?

No, it is. This is a realism mod.

I let that one pass.

I am then advised that the shotgun (the semi automatic one?) is actually a garand with a scope. Just not skinned.

I see.

I'll let that one slide too... Still not exactly realistic and balanced though is it?

By now they are threatening to boot me because I am just arguing. This coming from the people who flamed me for my name and nationality before I'd even got a shot off.

"Yes, it is very realistic... This is coming from someone who lives with a historian" I am told with some amount of pomp.

Ok... I see... a historian who thinks a bolt action rifle is able to fire off as fast as a semi automatic rifle. I decide to humour her and politely ask her why I was just killed by the guy with the bazooka that was spewing out machine gun style ammo with tracers the size of Manhatten at me. Killing me instantly.

"Oh, that's the Hand Held MG42".

Ah.

Nay, the g43 has at least a slight cycle rate. It's fast, I'll agree, but it's not semi automatic.

This mod had the thing firing as fast as the garand.

But, that's not the bad part at all.

The last two lines of my post were something of a punchline to the whole horrid experience.

technically it is semi automatic, and IRL you could probably shoot it like one, but the recoil would be too high. that's why snipers prefered the karbiner even after the g43 was more readily avalible.

OK! Lol, I get it already.

So their G43 was a perfect representation... Excellent news. You totally miss the point of my post, but hey they knew their G43s...

They obviously knew their stuff, I apologise.

No need to post to do that. It does that all on itself. I've seen as little as 2-3 people posting at one time and the forums have gone down easilly.

Just like a cheap whore.
