Weird, I get the same thing, but its when join ANY server. My Ping is usually at like 27-37 then jumps to over 500 every so often and i freeze for a few seconds only to get killed everytime..

I know its not my ISP.. My DL speeds are usually just about at 1.5mb

I just ran a test at http://www.dslreports.com

Cable upload speeds are usually advertised to be around 128Kb/s. I have a cable connection and get similar numbers to Maj. Stoner. The highest mine ever tested at (for download) was 2.5MB/s. It's normally between 1.4 and 1.6 MB/s.

My upload speed is normally around 150Kb/s... but I get no where near that number when actually uploading something. I average about 15Kb/s upload.

Cable's not really a good enough connection to host a game. Normally anyone with a cable connection shares one main line with their neighborhood or apartment complex. If a lot of people sharing that main line jump on the net to play games or download who-knows-what it saps your bandwidth - resulting in higher pings.

Your download speed has very little to do with your ping. When downloading, you only ping the dl source when you ask for information.

Ping is how long it takes to send a request and receive an answer from the server. Download is how much info is moved over a specified time. Satellite modems have great downloads, but their ping is in the seconds range, not milliseconds. Great dl, bad ping = bad for games.

DSL reports is ok, but it doesnt tell the whole story. Make sure you dont have bad packet loss. DSL reports can tell you this. You might also test you ping multiple times to see if you have a pattern of inconsisent pings. If so, contact your ISP. They will most likely stonewall you, but every complaint lodged adds up. Call often if they act like nothing is wrong.

Its closer to 150 kbps and 16 kb/s. They are not the same. 8 kbps to one kb/s or something similar. So you are getting about what is advertised.
