RCON Server Messaging Utlity Available for Spearhead? -
07-25-2003, 06:48 PM
I'm running a server dedicated to hosting the STALINGRAD MAP and thought it would only appropriate to increase the intensity of combat by subjecting my players to a nice bit of literature by a message that would be displayed every 30 minutes.
The intensity of fighting can be seen from what one Wehrmacht lieutenant wrote: "We have fought fifteen days for a single house. The front is a corridor between burnt-out rooms; it is the thin ceiling between two floors... From story to story, faces black with sweat, we bombard each other with grenades in the middle of explosions, clouds of dust and smoke, heaps of mortar, floods of blood, fragments of furniture and human beings... The street is no longer measured by metres but by corpses... Stalingrad is no longer a town. By day it is an enormous cloud of burning, blinding smoke; it is a vast furnace lit by the reflection of the flames. And when night arrives, one of those scorching howling bleeding nights, the dogs plunge into the Volga and swim desperately to gain the other bank. The nights of Stalingrad are a terror for them. Animals flee this hell; the hardest stones cannot bear it for long; only men endure."
There is my message now I need to find a Utlity to punch it into and let that Utility broadcast the message accross my dedicated Spearhead Server.
Note: I run my server via Spearhead Server Setup.exe (which I wish to keep on using)
P.S. This is the final step in getting my server up and running as I have (and alliedassault.com of course) completed the rest over the past couple days.

This Autokick application will not do since it uses close to my whole processor lagging my server to death. hake:
Too bad it has a nice messaging feature built in but no option to disable it's scanning.

Seeing as I have already used up one box(1800+) for my Dedicated Server and a second for my Gaming machince(2700+) I will not be using a third for "Autokick Utlity" which is required since Autokick Util spikes your processor hard every couple of minutes causing major lag. hake:, unless you have a P4 3.06 533FSB I couldn't see running both your Dedicated Server and Autokick on the same machine.

I was able to install AutoKick onto my 2700+ which is my gaming machine! I find no problems when playing mohaas! I also got rid of my private network and just use two public ips.

Check the readme for Autokick and it explains why the system utilization goes to 100%. In essence, the clock cycles just aren't running under the "system idle process", so they are counting towards CPU utlizization even though Autokick ins't using the CPU. In retrospect, I should have just used the Windows API to run my timer events, because Visual Basic does it differently and that is what is causing this.
You should not have any noticeable impact on performance from Autokick and your processor will be idle 98% of the time. The biggest impact occurs during read / write operations to your hard drive and those only happen when you first start Autokcik or close it.
