Comp Trouble -
10-26-2003, 09:24 AM
I formated my computer to get rid of Windows XP and instaled windowsME (My computer only has 128 mb of RAM and thus runs slow with XP and when I try and play my games it goes even slower, shittier, etc.) Now, WindowsME sucks ass so buggy and everything and they guy who reinstaled ME on my computer took out my sound card for some reason.
Anyway, When the 60 mins is up and my computer goes to the screensaver, when I move the mouse to get it to go back to the desktop screen, but nothing happens. My screen stays black, and the little button that was once green on my monitor turns to that orangish-brown colour... and my comp has trouble shutting down aswell.. heh...
Any ideas?

Who knows, it's hard to say from my point of view. It could be a driver problem, hardware, software, etc.

Win2kPro is possible or ever if you can get your hands on a copy.
As for your problems..... so many variables to give one suggestiuon would only mean that there are another 999 to try out. + no mater what you do WinME is and still is the worst OS to ever come about into existence.

Guess I'll have to buy a more RAM, but I have a Dell, and Dell's are nazis and won't allow you to add anynew hardware due to its limited space in the Tower....

Maybe your computer goes into hibernation? Sounds like it, try pressing the restart button on your computer when this happens, it should wake it up(it wont actually restart it). If you want to disable hibernation just go into your control panel, on xp its under performance and maintenance, then click on power optiones, then the hibernation tab.

ummmm....well i dont know much about fixing computers, but when i had a big problem with windows98 and my compuiter wouldnt even boot right, i deleted 98 off my computer fully then installed it again. now it says theres a bunch of .dll files missing upon startup, but it runs and all my programs work.
i was able to use command prompt for all this. like the thing where you type c://setup and all that junk.
SO, in conclusion, just reinstall what worked - xp. or get windows 98, b/c this computer has 128 ram 500mhz and it works good with it.

correct! you win the prize beer:
it's shutting down the HDDs and your comp will not come out of hibernation unless you press the 'sleep' button on your keyboard (if you have one) or press the reset button on your tower
in the screen saver area, look for 'power management' or something similar - once there you'll see everything and understand rock:
Stay out of my foxhole, pal!

With a setup like that, you should re-format and install Win 98SE. Get WinXP on a new machine.

RAM is so cheap, just get some more. Anyway, when ME was installed something happened with your video drivers. Now when your computer goes into sleep mode, it can't be "woken up" because of some kind of conflict. To fix this for now, go into your screensaver options, disable all of the power options, and you shouldn't have the problem anymore.
Next, get some cheap RAM and install 98se, 2000, or XP. All will be well.
