from my knowledge, this is masterminded by an al qaeda operative (believed by the US to be). it took place during a religious holiday demonstration.

I hope this doesn't escalate to a civil war between Sunnis and Shiites,
it would not be contained to Iraq, sort of like the Catholic/Protestant wars of the 3 Musketeers era.

Thats a good point, and it seems thats exactly what the Saudi foreign fighters are trying to do. Under Sadam, the Shiite majority were opressed and now that they are taking control of the country because of majority power, a good way to disrupt the coalition plans would be to promote a civil war. Damnit this sucks, it seems that as long as religion is still the center of ones universe, there will always be room for some kind of strife.
