Hey guys, I just wanted to know, when buying RAM, is there any specific brand that needs to be bought for certain computers or can you just buy whatever RAM you want, cause i have an IBM and it's like 2 years old now, and it has 133MHz (PC-133) synchronous dynamic random access memory, and my computer has a maximum of 512 MB of SDRAM.

If your computer runs SDRAM, you need to buy a new computer.

You need to know what type of ram your mobo supports, as well as number of pins IE: 184

You dont HAVE to buy a new pc, its just that SDRAM is so outdated, you will get alot more performance by getting DDR. Like I said, im in the same boat. I have 256mb of pc133 SDRAM and i wanted to buy more so my games would run more smoothly, but when I looked online the RAM prices for this old piece of shit, i found them to bee so high, that its not even worth buying SDRAM anymore. They wanted $180 for a stick of 512mb. You are better off getting DDR ram, but you would have to get a new mobo and all that other shit, so in that sense, you would need a whole new computer basically.

See, now no one is thinking logically! I thank you guys for your information, but you are saying,buy a new computer which costs over 1000 dollars, just because I want more RAM? That doesn't make sense when I have a computer that works perfectly fine, runs games, and I just want to buy more RAM, I'd much rather pay the 150 dollars for 512MB. Thanks again guys!

well maybe they are saying this because it is a waste of money to buy SDRAM since you will hardly see an improvement anyway since it is SDRAM.

You wont have to spend $1000 to get a new pc, just a new mobo and ram. You can keep everything else you have, monitor, video card, sound card, shit like that. instead of blowing $189 on old ass RAM, you can spend about the same to get better RAM and a better mobo.
