I have a n00b question. I would like to talk to someone in another state (US here) from my computer. What free prog will enable me to do that? I used to use "Dialpad" but they charge now.
Does IRC or some shit like that work that kinda way?...and if so, does the other person need that prog too?
...now, go ahead and laugh because i never used mirc/irc/icq, or whatever!!

You use a headset right?
With dialpad, you were able to call someone's house phone from your computer headset. I'm looking for something like that where the other person doesn't even need a computer. If not, what prog do you recommend both users get?

Oh for calling to a phone? Errra um, i dunno about that one but if you both have computers, the simplest program is msn messenger. http://www.msnmessenger-download.com/ You can use a mic and talk through that or type.

You could use Teamspeak, but both people need it installed on their computer and a headset

I know this can be done. I connect phone lines into 'point of sale' networks all the time. If they have more than 3 terminals they need a dedicated line.

i often use yahoo messenger - i believe its alot better than msn's voice function - its definately worth a try. only prob is that both machines need yim and a yahoo account (easily obtainable tho) I wouldnt recommend teamspeak as it eats loads of bandwidth and can be quite jumpy at times.
