Does anybody know of good software to rip DVDs onto a computer? Preferably a try and buy or something.

Solidus is right. DVD-Shrink is the way to go. I use this to rip my dvd's and then use DVD Decrypter to burn them.
It breaks down dvd's into main movie, menu's, audio, extra's etc. so you can choose exactly what you want to burn.

Right now I am trying to figure out a way to put Goodfella's 2 disc set on to one dvd.

DVD X copy platnium, works great you get all the titals and shit too. 150$ at best buy free at you know where.
