ive heard this on NPR radio. its a genetic mutation that inhibits a chemical which controls muscle growth. they said they could engineer a drug that would offer enhancements for atheletes... eek: due to the research they did on this...they said the entire family was exceoptionally strong and carried the mutated gene, but the child had 2 occurences of the mutation. they said the kid could hold a 7 lb weight in each hand held straight out...im guessing thats impressive for a youngster oOo:
edit-duh i just read the article and i summed it up... eek: oOo: oOo:

holding 7 pounds with arms stretched out is impressive for anyone. Try it and see how long you can hold 10 pounds out there with your arm at a 90 degree angle. Not very long. 7 pounds for a 5 year old is amazing.

kthx - They've been doing this research forever.. I thought someone posted about the mice a few years ago?
Anyway, it's pretty cool that they've found this in a human so they can jump forward with human testing on gene-blocking drugs. My mother's best friend found out she suffers from muscular dystrophy a few years ago, so we've been following this pretty closely.
