Default Hard Drive Question - 10-21-2004, 04:44 AM

k, I just bought a Western Digital 120GB Hard Drive, installed it, everything went fine,, working fine aswell.

but I noticed something, I rested my arm on my desk aand felt a repeated vibration, i then put my hand on my PC and it was coming from that, now I KNOW it's the new HD. My question is, is this normal for it to be vibrating like this? are western digitals known for it?. I dont want anything fucked. I transfered ALL my data on to that. I used the WD lifeguard test thing and everything is fine.. is it normal to vibrate like that?

If you didn't upset the power supply while you installed your hd, then it's the mounting of your hd.

I just installed the same device as my 2nd hard drive and I've got no vibration issues. Make sure it is seated nice and snug.

pull it out and make sure thats the issue. only way to know for sure is to remove it and see if the vibration goes away. if it does, put the drive back in and re-seat it. If you still are getting bad vibes, RMA it.

One more thing. I bought a 160GB Maxtor HD a few months back and it was very loud at first, and sent vibes through my case. After a couple of days it settled down and now there are no vibrations whatsoever. Give it 3 days or so Buck and see what happens, if you're not happy with it, erase all your porn and RMA it.
