Half-life 2 is here; yes it's true the game can be bought at your local software dealer. The people from HL2Files.com saw a link to a warez version of Half-life 2 on some bit torrent sire and thought it be smart to warn the people at Valve about this.
So they did and some time after they reported the link they got a message back saying that Valve distributed the warez version themselves, and that anyone downloading the game and trying to play it via steam will have there IP number recorded and blocked from steam.
Isn't this a great way to stop the distribution of illegal software, imagine what would happen if valve gave this list to other software companies so that they could block these ip addresses too, then I think we've gotten a little bit closer to a world where people don't steal, not even software.
breaking the law by posting the game to DL? They own the rights to it hence they can do whatever they want with it. It's no different then Punkbuster banning IPs or now, banning by your hardware ID. The only way it can be entrapment is if they use the IP information to press charges against the people DLing it.
They're not arresting anybody are they? I'm no lawyer, but wouldn't they have to arrest somebody for it to be entrapment and breaking the law? Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending them, but it doesn't sound like entrapment to me.
Well techically if they released it, and they said it was free, even if they dind't say it was under their own name. They are legitametally selling me a copy. I'm sure theres some tort in Canada against this. Tort of deciet or something.
