WASHINGTON (AP) - Mike Tyson's career may have ended in shocking fashion Saturday night when he quit on the stool after taking a beating in a foul-filled sixth round against unheralded Kevin McBride.

Tyson lost for the third time in his last four fights, and once again he faded badly as the rounds went on before head butting McBride in a desperate attempt to end the fight in the sixth round.

Tyson was pushed to the canvas when the round ended, his head stuck between the first and second ropes. He got up very slowly, wobbled back to his corner and sat on his stool.

When referee Joe Cortez came by to look at him, his corner told Cortez the fighter could not continue. Cortez then went over and raised McBride's hand in victory.

The 38-year-old Tyson was a huge favourite over McBride and won the early rounds. But as the fight went on, it was McBride landing the bigger punches as Tyson desperately tried to score a knockout.

Tyson was weary by the fifth round and, in the sixth round, he was penalized two points for deliberately head butting McBride and opening a cut over his left eye. The head butt came after Tyson appeared to try to break McBride's arm in a clinch like he once did against Francois Botha and after he hit him with several low blows.

In a career filled with tremendous highs and terrible lows, Tyson may have reached a new low in the loss to McBride, who came into the fight with no credentials.

he could still turn you into a bloody mess on the floor. However he is getting pathetic. He should just quit and work on not getting in trouble with the law.

kind of sad to see him go out like that. he should have retired a long time ago and stayed out of trouble. even though hes finished, no one can deny that he was the last person anyone would want to face in the ring. he is the most ferocious and terrifying fighter ive seen and that deserves some respect. he was the mutha fuckin man back in the day.

He cant retire - owes too much money. It is too bad how this went down though. . .

I mean hell if George Fucking Foreman can win the title at fucking 45 YEARS OLD! - AND defend the damn thing. . .so can TYSON. . .

Tysons career started down hill a long time ago. The first time he got knocked on his ass by Buster Douglas it was pretty much over. It became apparent he could be had. After that nobody was afraid of him anymore.

The rest of his fights were mostly fought in desperation. Ear biting, low blows, trying to break the guys arm in a clinch, head butting. All signs of a desperate fighter trying to survive a round. Hes suposed to be a professional. In reality hes a hack and always has been.

His next fight will be in a bar someplace where they pay the customers 50.00 if they can last 3 rounds with the great mike tyson. Probably get his lame ass kicked there too.

45-2 from 1985 to 1996. 39 of those wins were knock outs. He was hardly a hack.

I didn't see the fight, but from what I've read about it, it was supposed to be a bit of a stinker. Tyson should get a career in WWE or something like that.
