hah, maybe they finally see the coaliton as a lesser evil. if we exploit this somehow, perhaps we can get them to agree to a cease fire and fight the real terrorists.

Or the country will just break out in a civil war.

No one really likes al-Zarqawi.

If you care for a history lesson:

al-Zarqawi noticed a shift in the middle east towards a more western culture 30 years ago. Places like Egypt and Saudi Arabia began to open up to the west. al-Zarqawi saw the west as an evil. He's very strict by the book (pun intended) kind of guy. He thought the people of the middle east are basically being brainwashed. To overcome this, he started to kill leaders that backed the US and Europe. He thought once this happened, the masses would rise up and get rid of the west all together. This didn't happen.

By al-Zarqawi's logic, everyone who didn't rise up supports the government. Thus they support the west. Now they can be killed as well.

He then turned against the people killing at random. He thought that mass killings might shock the people to realize what their supporting. It didn't work and now al-Zarqawi and Al Qaeda are a fringe radical group that no one really likes. Who would like a group that finds it justifiable to kill anyone who isn't a part of their group?

The Insurgents and Al Qaeda are very different people. Al Qaeda is against anything that isn't them, the insurgents are mainly against the occupying force in Iraq. There is a huge difference.

If we want to get into Al Qaeda a bit...
IMO Bin Laden isn't the leader of Al Qaeda. IMO Bin Laden wasn't directly involved with 9/11. I do believe Al Qaeda carried it out, but I don't think anyone took any orders from Bin Laden. Bin Laden funded the group, but has no real authority. He's a figure head, and the US uses him as their poster boy. Al Qaeda doesn't have any capabilities to carry out any kind of attack on their own. I would venture to guess that they were helped to carry out 9/11. I would also assume that they would be unable to carry out any further attacks. I could go deeper into what I believe, but most won't like what I have to say, so I won't.
