its the transparency.

try this:
when you get done select the object ( all ) then select / modify / contract by 1 ( or 2, 3, wtfever you like, 1 is just a gen purpose # ), then, select feather .5 ( or 1/2 of the contract number ). then make your transparency out of then new selection.

the chop should nt be visible if you do ^.
