it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize there is a possibility you'll die if you join the military.

I live in downtown detroit, and there are fucking hippies camping out in the park across from my apartment in support of this woman. I was walking to my building after the nuge concert last night and one of these motherfuckers was playing a recorder. Talk about dignity...

losing a child in a car crash, abduction, disease, sure ... understanding that my sons job is to defend his country and that while doing so he might just get himself killed ... shes an adult. who really knows if the war is right or wrong ... who the fuk is she to judge all of the sudden just because someone she loves was killed .. fuk her. suck it up. as an adult she should understand the risk and take it like a man... or at least take it with a little bit of honor.... her son died defending our country for ffs. shes setting a bad example ...
i just dont get it ... SOLDIERS DIE DURING WAR.

I can completely sympathize with the grief and sadness of losing a child. I don't have any kids (92% sure), so I can only imagine the pain shes feeling. The problem I have with it is that shes exploiting her own sons death for publicity. That seems very wrong to me and if anything greatly cheapens her sons death.
PS - Please don't make this thread about the moral or ethical value of the war.

Did her son sign up after the war had begun/or deliberately to go to Iraq? If so she has absolutely no reason to bitch about it.
If he didn't and was already in the army when the war started - That's a little bit different. Imagine if you were killed in a war you totally disagreed with.
Still, I think this woman sounds nuts and a little to preachy.

When you join the army, i think it's common sense that theres a small chance that you will die should a war start.

Loss is sometimes very hard to deal with: projection (psychologically speaking) works well to defend them in these cases.
