[quote:8cfba]The bill would allow police to demand that Internet service providers hand over a wide range of information on the surfing habits of individuals, including on-line pseudonyms and whether someone possesses a mischief-making computer virus, according to a draft outline of the bill provided to the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.[/quote:8cfba]
I'll be writing a letter to my MP and Anne Mclellan.

Here's the letter I wrote to my member of Parliment, who also happens to be the leader of the opposition party:
[quote:f782d]
Dear Hon. Stephen Harper,
As my MP, I am writing to you to voice my concern over legislation that has been proposed by the Federal Government that would initiate increased powers for police and other agencies to monitor internet activity and cell phone calls of Canadians.
I understand the need to have the power to monitor those who may present a concern to the country for whatever reason, however, the judicial system needs to present a series of tests to recognize if the need to monitor is necessary.
If these judicial investigations are overlooked, I am concerned that these increased powers would call into question the privacy of all Canadians. Our country is based upon values of freedom and liberty, however, this legislation would seem to be in opposition to those principles.
In addition, I am troubled that this legislation could be a stepping stone to future action that will diminish civil rights and liberties in this country even further in the name of freedom and security.
Sincerely,
My Name
[/quote:f782d]
I also sent the letter to Prime Minister Paul Martin, Anne McLellan who is Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, Jack Layton who is leader of the New Democratic Party and Gilles Duceppe who is leader of the Bloc Quebicois party.
