Default Civ IV - 10-26-2005, 11:19 PM

Whose got it?

Got my copy today although i've only managed to play for less than an hour since i've essentially worked a 14 hour day. I also have to work the entire weekend and thus I have no days off to play Civ IV which blows nuts.

Anyway, if you don't like Civ IV, I don't like you.

This will be me when I actually get to sit down and play the game for a while:

BTW you will perish in flames, subcreature!

I bought it. I encourage you all to buy it as well. Literally. I got the preorder edition. It even comes with a soundtrack. I love Civ because i've played it since the early 90's.

Started out with Civ I then Civ II then Civilization: Call to Power then Call to Power II then Civ III and now Civ IV. I have all those games. Been playing Civ games for well over 10 years.

Finally got a couple more hours in, and it's great. Lot of new concepts.

You can play a game in 2 hours if you want, or play a game in 30 hours. I'm trying to go through an entire quick game. I've put about 1.5 hours in so far and I will hopefully finish it up today. Then i'll start my epic game.

Civ isn't really like Total war. There's not battles for one. I suppose the map turn based part is similar, but in civ it is much more in depth. But it's easier to manage than total war. It's hard to describe.

The 3d is nice. you can zoom right into a city and see the improvenemts you've built there. if you build the statue of liberty, you can see it on the game map. you can zoom all the way out to reveal the round world. It's awesome. The graphics aren't extremly polished, but their not bad. You have an option to run with 4XAA. On the screens I had it at 2X and at 1024X768. Graphics isn't really the main concern with civ games though. The game could look like shit and I wouldn't care. I'll leave the graphics to games like doom and fear. Civ is a thinking mans game. Although, they seemed to have made it a little easier. I guess that's good for newcomers to the series, but it may have made it a little too simple for me.

religion is a cool idea. i shared the same religion with my neighbour, mainly because I spread it to him. we got along really well throughout the game. With open borders, i can actually station my troops in his cities. so if he's getting attacked, i can help him out. Later in the game I nuked the chinese a bunch of times and then founded the un. Since I controlled so much population and area, i had something like 120 votes. I needed 144 to become UN leader. My buddy from the good ole days was the only one who voted for me because everyone else hated me and I got in. It's funny how you can nuke people and still become secratery general of the UN.

Lots of cool units, and you can customize each unit to what you want. You can have a bunch of units wthat are upgraded to city raiders for attacking, and have units specialized in defending your own cities.

the game is a ton of fun. i'm going to start my epic game now. it'll probably take me a month to comlete.
