Well, since x-mas is comming up, I think i want to treat myself to a PC upgrade.
About 8-9 months ago, i bought my ASUS A8V Deluxe mobo w/ AMD 64 3000+
Only reason i got the A8V was because i didnt have enough $$ to spring for a new PCI-E video card aswell.
Im looking to spend between 300-350$ in total.
Ive been looking at some various motherboards, mainly ASUS, but does anyone recomend any other model from a different manufacturer? Also have been looking into a 6600GT, and later down the line running SLI with 2 of them.
Any suggestions?
Oh, and current video card is a Radeon 9000 Pro 64MB, so basically anything is an improvement cool:
9800pro for like 110 to 150, decent mobo for 150 to 200. Boom your set. IF your current processor = 754 socket.. you = fucked.
(even a 6800GT or x800 for around 200 or a little more if you can spend it, and well worth it.)[/quote:3facf]
Its a 939 socket.
I was looking at the ASUS A8N SLi, and a 6600GT, then later adding another for SLi.

9800pro is getting a wee bit old now, soon wont be able to manage the latist games.
my friends 9800 pro handled cod 2 nearly maxed out lol.. Out of date..... (my computer = different story, it is bottlenecked by my wonderful pc 133 ram..
If you want the best performance the DFI Lanparty UT SLI-DR[/url:8a7b2] is the best. However, it's a bit tricky to set up if you don't know what you're doing. Tons of options in BIOS...
The Asus A8N-SLI Premium[/url:8a7b2] is good and a lot easier to set up.
moonraker, I highly suggest you skip the 6600GT and go up to 6800GT. Two 6600GTs in SLI is slower and costs more than a single 6800GT.
There is no way in hell a 9800 Pro could even dream of maxing out CoD2 when even 7800/X1800s struggle with it and they are 4x as fast.
nearly. not completely akuma. aka 2xaa, 8xaf 1280x1024 all graphics settings cranked. (except for maybe dynamic lights..) and it runs great. Thats more then enough for me, I never really asked him to turn it up anymore, but i am sure it would still have been decent.
