Default Butters in the Marines? - 01-11-2006, 11:52 PM

Well old Butters has been pondering the future alot lately, and I decided today to talk to the Marine recruiting office. They were hellah nice and very honest, easy going guys to talk to. They basically told me that I'm going to have to drop like 40 pounds before I can go to boot, but they were very motivational about it. The guy mentioned something about how they do some PT workout thing every Weds.

Anyways, my point is I know some of you guys have done armed services and such, so my question is what's the processing week about? Like I know you have to run a mile and a half in 13:30 and some other stuff. Also, I know boot camp is difficult, but exactly how difficult?

13:30 eek: you should be able to walk a mile that fast.
I personally have not been in the services. My cousin however joined the navy and did some basic physical training with some seal's before even entering boot(for close to a year probably). Needless to say he was a healthy guy before that, and after, he was solid as a brick. Those guys will whip you into shape fast if you really want to join.
If this is the path you decided to go down, then good luck man, hope it works out for you.

boot camp can be rough, but if you have the willpower, you'll make it through. you really need to ask yourself why you want to join, though. if you dont really know yourself, you're wasting your time and you wont make it.

Butters before you jump into the Corps you have to WANT to be a Marine. Because i will be the first to tell you the pay sucks and you get shit benefits and living conditions as opposed to the Air Force, Navy and Army.

I did not know that. How different are the benefits/pay?

Pay is pretty significant as opposed to the Air force. I think the army's pay grades are the same, but they get more money for college and various other benefits. Same with the navy.

shit man, you ruined the surprise!

The pay grades are the same in all branches, it's just mainly the benefits, such as college as my man Milla mentioned. There aren't any pay differences unless you are special forces, scuba, etc.

I wasn't sure about that. I know signing bonuses and all that bull shit are nearly non-existant for us....than again we are the best so we don't need all that jazz happy:

If canadians were allowed in your Air Force, I would try to become a chopper pilot... I wanna fly one of those things so bad.

Fucking private training and licenses = 12000$. No thanks, pay ME to learn how to do it.

He said a mile and a half. That's a nine minute mile. Shouldn't be too tough but if you are 40 pounds over weight you'll proabably have to build up to it, so you'd better go ahead and hit the streets.

Congrats on the decision Butters. Good luck. BTW - you might want to post over in the OTD fourms. We have a couple of ex-marines and one that I think still works in or around the Pentagon. We also have guys that have been, or currently are, in some branch of the military.

ya I was considering doing that but you gotta be a genius to pass the computer tests & I suck at math... Still passed the pilots tests though rock: just fkd up on navigation.

Semper fi butters, go for it if that's what you wana do. I was pretty certain about joining the Royal Navy & then I realised you can't get laid on ships so I'm now content with the reserve.
