Default Vai! - 02-08-2006, 06:07 PM

So Steve Vai is a nominee for a Grammy for his song "Lotus Feet". Too bad he's up against Les Paul.

I love Steve Vai, he's so damn good.

Eh....a pioneer in the making of an electric guitar....but his playing is sub-par to his other accomplishments.

Vai, on the other hand, is an amazing player, and an awesome guy. He does everything, he definitely deserves it more.

I've heard Les Paul play very well... he's just a different style than Vai, and personally, I like Les Paul's better

les paul also pioneered multi track recording by using machines brought back from the nazis by his neighbor who was in the US Army...

I wouldn't, but that's my opinion....and the fact that without him, Steve Vai would be sitting at a desk somewhere. Les Paul is responsible for a large aspect of modern music, so even if he didn't play the guitar as fast as Vai, he'll still probably win because of all he's done.

You can't prove that. Not every guitarist was influenced by Les Paul. I wasn't. I have respect for the guy, but I have a lot more respect for guitar plays such as Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, Jason Becker, and Steve Vai.

Whether or not Steve Vai was influenced by Les Paul or not is irrelevant, as far as we know, to his success. Other players influenced him as well, especially Satriani and Frank Zappa, so saying that if Les Paul didnt influence him he would be sitting at a desk now isnt true at all.

He didn't influence Vai musically, he invented the electric guitar...So yeah, it's pretty much true.

If you play guitar, you owe much respect to Les Paul.

Who cares wtf he invented?

All that matters is what they are up for an award for.

[quote:9ac2b]By 1952 Les Paul was not only the most popular guitar player in America, he was also a leading innovator in guitar and electronics design. He had been experimenting with electric guitars for as long as there had been electric guitars.[/quote:9ac2b]
