.pub to .pdf

Anybody know how I can convert a a .pub file made using MS Publisher from the Office 2003 pack to a .pdf file? Its not in 'Save As', it wasnt an option. And I can't open it using Adobe Acrobat.

Save off the individual pages as EPS files....or get acrobat distiller so you can print to pdf.

I'll convert it if you want.

at my work we have our brochures and such in .pub files and then they convert them to .pdf and upload them to the website except the pictures in the brochure look like shit. anyone know why? In publisher their crystal clear, but in pdf format their horrible.

I didn't convert them, I just found them one day and noticed the difference between the two.

Download acrobat distiller.

So all you have to do is print to PDF.

PDF is the standard file format recognised by all printers...It's just generally the easiest way to get a document printed on pretty much every type of industrial or desktop printer available.
It sometimes looks like shit on screen, but it should print out the same as the publisher file, no?

PDF compresses the shit out of files, so you'll lose resolution.

If you use Acrobat Distiller when creating a PDF from a PostScript or whatever, you can set it to any resolution you like, and you don't necessarily have to lose any resolution at all.

Ninty, I'd suggest checking the settings of the program you're using to create the PDFs...Anything around 300dpi should be a suitable resolution for printing....

This one has the right idea...All you have to do is go to print and set it to a postscript, then drop it in distiller...

Of course I have the right idea, my job is printing … and to get the best resolution when I send the newspaper to the print shop I print a post script, than use distiller to print to pdf. The post scrip file will seem tremendously huge compared to the PDF itself.

PDF is like the best way to print anything. Resolution wise also, right next to tiffs

Of course I have the right idea, my job is printing … and to get the best resolution when I send the newspaper to the print shop I print a post script, than use distiller to print to pdf. The post scrip file will seem tremendously huge compared to the PDF itself.

Hmm you are right ... but I also worked the printing press, to make sure I get the best settings I go through the entire process every week. I'll design the newspaper, send it to press ... at press I'll help set up the film/CMYKplaques, run it through, and print. The only thing I don't do is mess with the colors.

Hmm you are right ... but I also worked the printing press, to make sure I get the best settings I go through the entire process every week. I'll design the newspaper, send it to press ... at press I'll help set up the film/CMYKplaques, run it through, and print. The only thing I don't do is mess with the colors.[/quote:01ba4]

Ja, that's the best way to get it done if you're a designer/newspaper editor/whatever, knowing about print is such a crucial aspect to the job that people often forget about...My design tutor explained that it was the first thing he was forced to pick up based on mistakes which occured at the print end of his jobs, i.e registration errors, ink bleeds, imposition etc because he was never taught the capabilities of the various types of presses, and print imposition dynamics etc etc
