board may be slow next couple hours testing new phpBB3

I am playing with and testings the upgrade to phpBB3, which is an all new version built from the ground up from what I read.

While I do this, I'm re indexing the search results so you may see a slow down in performance.

Also I encourage you to check out and test the upgrade at

Please keep in mind that any posts there will be lost, this is for testing only. If you could try and log in and test a couple things I would appricate it.

- logging in
- posting
- see what kind of email is sent (hope they include post in email)
- cookies (hope I can stay logged in
- quote/code/posting smiles
- search (in a couple hours at least - lots of indexing going on)
- forum permissions - mods let me know if they carried over ( a whole new back end)
- what ever else you can find and play with
- new captcha system

Also don't mind the default color scheme as that has to be worked out as well.

If all goes well and when the final version is released, we will be upgrading to this version instead of upgrading to vB (TBH I don't have the $$ right now for a vB lic)

Let me know what you think in this thread.

from what I can tell, yes you can jibber. It's all in the theme and not something you can do via your own CP.... again why they make it difficult is beyond me.

geRV he is talking about the new test board your avatar and info is laid out on the right side instead of the left

i'm assuming thats the default theme with blue and white. But aside from the unusual feel of the forum font, colors, and right avatar, it seems nice.

yes, that is the default theme, however there is another one that is 1/2 loaded but I have to "install" it.

If anyone comes across a theme that looks like this one for phpBB3 let me know. Remember that this is only RC1. There are a bunch of themes already but they are not so nice looking.

Hopefully something will come along shortly before they go final.

We really need to upgrade this forum. Everything runs great but we yearn for something more, like youtube embedding as you mention, a search that actually works and a cut down of the useless/unused forums.

For some strange reason, after indexing the test forum's search items for over 28 hours it did nothing LOL

I guess that is why they call it a RC version
