Default Configuring your mic for TeamSpeak/other info. 8/24 - 08-22-2002, 05:29 PM

Mucho gracias rude for the sticky of the other post :P

Ok. Lets start with the highly technical part of getting TS up and running. I'll try and keep it in terms everyone can understand.

1. Install TeamSpeak.
2. Run TeamSpeak
3. ...

Ok, so there is no #3. Its really that simple folks cool:

Configuring your mic. If you've used RW successfully before you probally allready have it setup this way.

RIGHT click your volume icon and select "Open Volume Controls". Different flavors of Windows will look different but should be simialr to W2k's setup.

This is what you're looking for:

Make sure MIC and ONLY MIC is selected. It seems wrong but what you're telling Windows is to keep the MIC off untill it is told to open to transmit.

Now go up to the top left and click "Options" and select "Properties"

You should now be looking at this:

Make sure MIC is selected in the window at the bottom. Now go up and select "Recording" and click ok.

You should now be looking at this:

Again, make sure only MIC is selected. Close out the windows and start TS.
Do the loopback test and see if everything is working ok.

For most people that should be it. Not exactly brain sugery is it? :P

As far as MIC settings in TS were still out on that one. Just fool around with them untill you think you're getting the best quality you can. Dont be shy with the loopback test! Talk in a louder than normall voice and make adjustments accordingly. I think some of us are just quietly saying "Testing..1..2.." and then when we go in-game or just having a normall conversation it sounds like were eating the mic biggrin:

Headset users make sure the mic isnt too close to your mouth.

Voice Activation:
Disable it and bind a key to transmit (more on binding keys later). After 2 years and 2 clans using RW its generally understood that its a bad idea. Its distracting hearing your game or any other background noise every few seconds. You're free to try VA but if asked to turn it off plz do.

What works very well for me is binding Caps Lock to transmit. If you are using a M$ or Logitech keyboard with the shortcut keys at the top the software that came with the keyboard should let you disable the Caps Lock key but it will still funtion with TS. How often do you need to type in all caps anyway? Its right there next to your pinky and you dont have to look away or move your hand across the keyboard.

HotKeys for switching channels:
This is entirely up to you and what ever works best for you. Currently in TS you cant use modifiers like Alt or Cntrl. Hopefully this will be added in 2.0. Be nice and simple if you could use Cntrl A for allies and Cntrl X for axis yes?

There is no need to assign HKs to EVERY room. I made available Allied,Axis and General channels for both aa.com and the =DOA= servers. Each room needs its own hotkey. Once your in_game just push the appropiate HK and thats it. If you're typing in chat be mindfull of what keys your using or you'll wind up talking to your self. TS has no audio notification that you switched channels.

Thats all I have on tips but heres some more info:

Since I can create upto 255 channels and my host assures me bandwidth usage per player is neglible I will setup whatever rooms any of you need. If you need a channel for a match just ask me or any Admin. Same goes if 2 or more of you want a channel for another server allthough there are 4 general MOH server rooms and 4 Tribes rooms. There should be plenty of rooms for more private conversation too.

Currently I am only hosting clan =DOA= for now. That may change later. Might help if you tell me what a secse voice I have evil:

Thats all for now.
Any questions?

Another neat feature is the whisper hotkeys. Joe and I just tested this out.
Basically you assign a HK to a specific player and then only that player can hear you and it doesnt matter what channel they're in.

So if you assign me or rudedog to a HK you can talk to us (assuming were logged in) no matter what room were in. Could be very usefull if you're playing in the server and you need an admin to join your channel (disruptive player etc...) no matter what channel we're in.

I am also in the process of seeing if I can get 2 soundcards to work so TS only uses a specific card for playback/recording. Theoretically this is possible and if you have a mic/headphone rig you would only hear TS through your headphones leaving your comp speakers free for game audio.

This might seem a bit of a stretch for some users but it would be the ultimate TeamSpeak setup. I'll post back if/when I get it working.
