I haven't heard of them either until it was front page aa.com. I downloaded a few of them now.

Um... I just downloaded Russia. No offence to the author, but this is the best that there was?

It's not a terrible map but it has some major flaws.
  • No loading screen[/*:m:bd1fe]
  • How much fog do you need?[/*:m:bd1fe]
  • It's tiny[/*:m:bd1fe]
  • The texturing is so dull. Gray, gray, gray.[/*:m:bd1fe]
  • No flow to it's structure, connectivity is pretty much non-existant[/*:m:bd1fe]
  • Originality? How many more destroyed towns do we have to endure?[/*:m:bd1fe]

Now, I might seem overly harsh (it's his first Moh:AA map after all and it's not badly made and fairly glitch free) but this is the winner of a competition. I haven't checked out the competition yet, but if this is the best then is it worth bothering to check them?

I didn't bother submitting my map as I didn't think I'd be able to finish it for the deadline and I didn't want to rush it.

I'm wondering if this is the quality we can expect from EA's official compo.

Yet again, this post was by not meant by any means to put the map down in its own right. Congrats to the winner, I look forward to future maps from him. At the end of the day the above is constructive critisism that can be taken on board (or ignored cool: ).

Just tried Trench, too. Basically same comments as above, really (except the loading screen bit and it's got a little more colour).

I feel like an ogre, here... But these are my opinions, I suppose.

Ok, faith restored, Desert Base does look like it could be good fun. It's got a couple of lazy textures and lighting issues in places but the layout looks good.

I couldn't imagine playing it without respawns though (3 objectives would be far too difficult in such a large map with no respawn, unless maybe the server had 25-32 players). And we all know how much of a pain respawn objective can be.

But the map itself is very nice looking. I'd love to try this out on a public server.

Ydiss i couldnt agree with you more...i just downloaded Russia, the supposed winning tdm map. All i can say is, whoever voted this map number 1 had to be on drugs. First of all, the map offers nothing except empty boring 2 strory buildings. It is ridiculously small!!!! Omg! I was just in it by myself to test it out but, i think it would be horrendous for gameplay, basically a smaller gayer stalingrad where you cant see shit, and probably get killed if you stepped outside a building. This map is HORRENDOUS! Comeon what were these people thinking? No texturing, no originality, no creativity, i dont see how this was even in the top 5. I know if aa.com had a map contest this peice of crap would definately stayed far away from first place.

On a lighter note, i also tried "the secret lab". This map on a textural scale and originality scale was in my opinion pretty well done. First of all, i give the map author good marks on textural originality for his backround. I have never seen a backround like this yet, if you let go the bad pixelation of the mountains and kind of just glance at it-the feeling that your in a mountain valley is noticed. Also, the rooms are very well detailed, the best ive seen so far in a mp map. However, the maps most important feature, playability---i.e. how fun it is to play----goes way down. The map is way way to open giving virtually no cover between the gatehouse and the actual "lab" complex at the other end. I can just imagine how impossible it would be to try to run across from that side with such skilled ckr players with bar/stg just picking you off with ease. Another problem, the map is tiny. its basically a large rectangle, offering no places to hide. These map voters should have looked at the outstanding maps such as thunder, or for me personally i enjoy hitlers farm for playability....also the new lolv2 map rocks as well.
All in all i am disapointed and stunned that these two maps could be thought of by people as good....maybe they just didnt have entries or access to the wonderful maps here at aa.com hehe.
