Ooook - So I decided that I had some disposable income and want to upgrade my computer. However the cost of upgrading it, I could get ANOTHER computer and network one to another.

I've tried doing this before but feel flat on my ass. I'm not looking for some advanced user shit, I just want to connect the old computer to the new computer (which will be faster and more efficient, although I AM gonna have to reinstall fucking WINDOWS XP - ), and use one monitor since I really am only going to access information off the other computer, or run servers and shit. Sooooo -

How the fuck do I do this?

1) Get either a network hub or router, and make sure both PC's have operational NIC cards.

2) Hook up both of the PC to the 1st 2 ports of the hub/router, and have the DSL/Cable connection (if you have one) going to the Uplink port on the hub/router.

3) On both computers, share your hard drives/CD-ROMs, or whatever drives you plan on sharing.

4) Make sure the PC's both have different names, and are on the same Workgroup. (In WinXP, Right click My Computer>Properties>Network Identification>Properties) PC names & Workgroups should be in CAPS.

5) If only 1 PC has WinXP, use the WinXP box first, and once it is setup, create a network service diskette by opening My Network Places. there should be a guide in there. Use that disk on your other system to get the PC's connected.

That should be it.

Ok well I had one ROUTER before and it had it's own software for finding the damn other computer and shit. What your'e saying though, is that my XP will be able to take care of ALL of this crap.

Once you set up XP to connect to a hub/router for file sharing/networking, WinXP asks that you make a boot disk for any other PC's that don't have XP so they can connect to one another.

ya network sucks...takes away alot of stuff you could do before...just so my brother can ahve a computer too...

makes yer game laggy takes away game creation capabilities...face it networking wasn't made fer gaming
