Default TeamGOD Legal Action - 01-18-2003, 01:46 AM

As promised, this post will be the definitive on legal action, etc against TeamGOD.

First off, I've had several lengthy conversations with the FBI. We discussed the most plausible plans for filing complaints, on whom I could file complaints, and the maximum and likely sentences for each person. The FBI confirmed that a case could easily be made and won based on charges of Denial of Service attacks, proliferation of illicit information, and a form of electronic harassment. These charges would be filed claiming myself as a representative of the gaming community, and on behalf of the entire gaming community, beyond MoH.

The charges discussed were quite serious, more serious than I had anticipated. After reviewing some of the information I had accumulated, the estimated sentencing for one individual, a TeamGOD leader and site admin, was 5 years in a federal prison and a $12,000 fine.

I've spoken with many people, and at great length, concerning this issue. The support I've received from the community has been amazing. There was truly an outpour of genuine concern on this matter, and well there should have been, because it is a serious issue.

However, I regret to inform the community that I will not be pursuing criminal charges, and civil charges are unlikely. I came to this decision because after much consideration, I simply could not sleep well at night knowing that I had ruined the life of another human being over something so petty. I say petty for a lack of better terms. This is serious, but I just cannot justify to myself that this is serious enough to literally destroy the life of another person, and possible the lives of their family as well.

I hope you will all understand the reasons behind my decision, and respect them. My stance on this issue will not shift, so please don't try. This is final.

As for the release of materials. I basically have two choices, I can retain the non-public information I have gathered in the off chance that someone else pursues legal action. Or, I can release the information for all to see, but risk nullifying its use in a court of law.

I have therefore decided to retain the information, which includes screenshots from their private forum area, chat session logs, and videos of servers being crashed, for a period of 60 days. If, at the end of 60 days no one has taken legal action and used this information, it will be released to the public.

Again, my decision on this is final, and I will not be swayed.

If you are interested in taking legal action, that is your personal decision. While I am willing to provide you with definitive evidence, I cannot, myself, testify and directly destroy someone's life over this.

Good luck and fair play,

- Noctis

yeah and why don't you just go to hell alright? Your little "moral" decision is annoying and shows how weak you are that you won't stop people who complicate others lives so much.

if anyone ever takes action against http://www.myg0t.com, I hope it isn't you.

You have practically no chance of winning a civil suit against a minor.

And RAGE, we don't need 13 year old forum n00bs putting in their ignorant and ill-informed two cents. I don't see your stupid ass calling the FBI or consulting a lawyer. I have morals. Sorry your mommy and daddy beat you instead of teaching you some.

I think the whole thing is a crock myself, but I will say this.
Dropping the whole thing and getting on with your life is the best thing you can do.
I mean come on.. these are guys that are having fun. they are playing pranks.
And do they really hurt people?
Not really.
All that happens is they find people like yourself that feed off it and keep introducing you to more and more of it.
Taking time out of your life to see these guys pay for playing pranks on you.. well your just as bad as them.
And you are making them popular.
There are thousands, maybe even millions of people just like those guys that try to hurt or cause problems to people with the use of the internet.
Let it go.
There are a lot more important things to worry about in life.
Not the fact of some guy hacking a gaming server or using an aimbot..
Pfft..
I mean get real.
Go outside. meet people in real life and you will find..
99.999999% of the real world doesnt give a crap about on-line gaming or forum posts.

When I first consulted a lawyer and a judge on this matter, I was told that the people would be subject to fines and prohibation, maybe a few months in prison. After speaking with the FBI, they're talking years in prison.

I expect to get flamed in this thread, but whatever. I have my reasons for going as far as I did, and I have my reasons for not following through. And quite frankly, if you don't like it, you can kiss my white ass.

And MPowell, don't burn bridges.

Well, Noctis, you still did a good job. Standing up to these thugs and putting them in their place is very chivalrous. This should set a big enough example to those kids who crash servers for their own personal enjoyment. You hear that kiddies? 5 YEARS.

Why would you want to work with the government when it came to this shit nEways? I say ignore them or fight back the same way they fight! Not saying that would be the smart thing to do but I assume there are skilled peeps out there that could put the smack down. I still dont understand the whole "i am going to tell my mommy on you" CRAP. Yes, may be annoying but ignore it if you can (or use the whole community to fight back). WE are the law, not some net cop...
