Anyone else notice: There's 47 people online, and the box didn't crap out. Hmm. . .I don't think BadScript swapped out the PC in one day, but this is rare, there's more than 12 people in the Offtopic at once. ed:

Anythings possible. BS and I were discussing this one day for about an hour, and he said there's mainly two reasons the forums crap out so much:

1) The box - He's got AA.COM running off of a AMD Duron 800. Anything over 30 users usually kills the server, due to the high amount of querys from PHP to the SQL database.

2) The code - phpBB is a third-party PHP-coded script, and it always will be. If we upgraded to 2.0.4, there would be great improvements, but not miracles. All in all, we need a new box.

He told me about a Celeron 1.5Ghz box he has been wanting to switch out, but for some reason or another, he couldn't do it. I told him how I dispised Celeron, and offered up my P4 1.5Ghz barebones for 250, and he passed it up! hake:

there's nothing wrong with phpbb, i manage a board of about 300 people and never had any problems. the forum shits are due to the sheer size of the database. the server simply can't sort through that many requests at once.

True, but this is phpBB version 2.0.1. Any SQL database with more than 1,790 users, and PHP is unable to query it properly. It was a big security AND stability issue fixed in 2.0.2.
