Default PS2 EMULATOR. . . - 06-30-2003, 01:04 PM

http://WWW.NGEMU.COM has it's PS2 emulator page opened, and right now while it only have prototypes that dont play games YET, they are carefully charting the progress of the emulators that are out there, and the results look very nice. Accordingly there is an XBOX EMU in the works, although no GAMECUBE.

Cool, but big deal. Not trying to be sarcastic, but ps2 is pretty lame. If vice city is the best ps2 has to offer, I am not impressed. The xbox is pretty cool though. I ahve seen a couple in the past few weeks that are all hopped up. Harddrives upgraded to 120 gb drives with 100+ games all there for the playin. And better games than what the ps2 has to offer. Or so I hear, I dont really play console games.

Eh - VICE CITY is a great game, but its not the only GREAT game on PS2.

I'd say the best PS2 games are:

DARK CLOUD 2
DEVIL MAY CRY
VICE CITY
GTA 3
MIDNIGHT CLUB RACING
Any of the Gran Turismo Games -
Kingdom Hearts
Sukidon
FFX (even though it was a HUGE departure playwise from the reg FF series). . .

Seriously there are tons of great games for the PS2, its just that its been out longer and XBOX had a chance to improve on what PS2 had to offer. Still though this is a great thing. Of course fully playable games may well be a WAYS off, theyve succesfully emu the BIOS so that is a BIG start.

the only reason I need a PS2 emulator is for Frontline, just to see if the missions have any more variety than MOHAA/MOHSH.

I would like to see a gamecube emulator to play Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron 2, or is that out for Xbox also?

Well, the only problem I see is that there is no way the emulators will be able to fully support any of the games. To this day most N64 games are still unplayable becuase of the way the emulators are written. No matter how powerful the system is, you are still limited by what the Emulator can do. The best bet is to just get the MOD chip, even Gamecube has one now (mini DVD's are still too expensive though). Pretty soon you may not even need the mod chip though, they are close to breaking the encryption on the disc.

I think a lot of games for the PS2 will be hard to control on the PC.

Nope, just job security for the guy that writes the disc encryption.

Exactly. How many game companies have you seen go under because of Pirating? None. They go under because either the games are just rehashed ideas slapped onto a shiny new system, or the marketing sucks, or they just don't have the money to keep up with the competitors. In truth, people who pirate the games would not in most cases buy the game anyway. The opposite though is true for movies. Word spreads fast if a movie is good or not through IRC and the message boards. The result is people who download the movie and like it, will either a) go see the movie itself, or B) Generate good buzz that spreads through the online community in result giving the company free advertising.

Not that there may be some financial loss, but if a movie is good, and the hundred million dollars that was spent on it is well used, then people will go see it at the theater. Never blame Pirating for the decline of game sales, well, maybe for the PC games...
