The marines gave me a book all about training before going into boot camp. It tells u stuff from 10 months all the way to 2 days away from boot camp, i just follow what the book says and it said physical training in boot camp should be a breeze. Everyother day i run 1.5 miles, than ill pick up more eventually

On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, I work out. I do a pyramid workout on bench press Monday and Friday and do back and shoulder exercises on Wednesday. I do regular and hammer curls for those three days as well as sets of crunching and leg ups (pull your legs towards your body while hanging on a chin-up bar or tree branch).
On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, I run an average of two miles. I do this because I am trying to get back in shape for track this spring.
**PYRAMID WORKOUT**
10 reps- 135 lbs (very easy)
8 reps- 155 lbs (easy)
6 reps- 175 lbs (a little hard)
4 reps- 195 lbs (now burning like a mofo)
4 reps- 200 lbs (big ass hard as hell set)
2 reps- 210 lbs (hard, but not quite as bad)
1 rep- 220 lbs (this one I usually can't do, I'm too burned out)
NOTE the weight will change with your strength but that pyramid workout is the best to achieve size increase and muscular developmnent of the chest and shoulders.
Also be aware that if you just want to get in shape, I recommend doing more reps but less weight, and if you're building muscle, do this pyramid.

Good stuff, screw the grapefruit diet. I am pretty active when I'm not online, but I'm still kind of a butterball I should try that pyramid thing out, I don't wanna lose weight, just wanna build my muscles.

If you want to find the weights that you need to workout with just max out on a standard olympic weight bench. Take 70% of your max and make that weight the weight you will use for your 6 rep set. For instance, my last max was 250 lbs, so I just multiplied that my .70 which gave me 175. Then just use that pyramid chart increasing the weight by whatever I increased it by. However if you are much stronger or much weaker than I am, then the weight change from set to set will vary. Although it did help to find my pyramid chart because they are plastered all over my football team's weight room. biggrin:
IMO, the pyramid workout works is the best, not just for bench press, but for squats, hang cleans, and power cleans as well. Of course results will vary for every person, so it might not work as well for you as it does for me. For example I increased my bench max 10 lbs from my last max before, while some other guys only increased 5 lbs, or did not increase at all. Another factor that alters how much you increase is how hard you work. If you blow off one set, or just don't try to get that last rep, then you will hurt yourself in the long run.
For most people though, the pyramid works great. It increases your chest size AND makes your chest hard as a rock. You will definitely look bigger, or as my black teammates say, "You get swoll, nigga!" biggrin: biggrin:

Thanks Chronic. That gives me some good info. I doubt i'll beable to bench 250, or even 200 for that matter any time soon. My max is about 170 i believe but that was hydraulic which I find a lot easier than freeweight. freeweight max is probably somewhere around 150. I'm a pretty small guy though, I need some meat on my bones. I'm about 130lbs and 5'7" or so.
Once i'm out of college in 2 1/2 years then I'll probably go into some sort of army training. Thats why I ask the question. Long time till then, but If I can start off now and maintain that till then, I think I should be in pretty good shape. I'll have lots of time to get my strenght up.
Thanks again.

Your body size does have an effect on how high you can bench, but you don't have to be a huge monster man to be able to bench a lot. I'm 5'9" and 169 lbs, so you don't really need a whole lot of size. But don't worry about how much you can bench or whatever, your ability to run long distances and have good agility mean more to make it past BT.

Yeah, it is easier. I have not lifted a hydraulic weight in 2 years, I like the good 'ole freeweights the best.

I dunno, if you really push it and dedicate yourself to do it every week, you could increase by at least 15 pounds within a month, that is if you don't regularly work out. When I first started working out in the 8th grade, I maxed 125 on bench. The end of my 8th grade year I maxed 175. Now I'm in the 11th, and my bench max slowed down, probably because I am short. There was this senior last year that was 5'5" and 150 lbs, and he benched 325 lbs. Everybody was so damn jealous of him, lol, because most people see the bench as your measurement of how big of a man you are, so everybody always tried to beat him. I think he won 1st place in a strength competition for high school athletics that year for highest bench pound-for-pound. BTW nice topic, I can talk all day about working out and getting in shape.

I cant wait to laugh at all you fucking weight lifting retards when you find out 75% of physical training involves running.
situps, pushups, military pushups, pullups, even fucking IT (Incentive Training) doesn't mean shit to those grueling ass jogs/runs/group runs/timed runs/hikes/so on and so on.
Let me tell you - I saw some fucked up shit that people were willing to put up with. One guy had a swollen ass foot, and didnt say shit about it...
Why?
Because he didnt want to go to the recovery platoon and have to deal with more weeks in bootcamp.
Yes.
It's THAT fucked up.
