Default multiplayer probs - 10-15-2002, 08:29 AM

Hello I am a avid gamer and love the single player. But i play most of my games on multiplayer and am having a problem with this game.

Here is what its doing : When i choose to play and i am connected to the net the game automaticly kicks me off the net. I have tried several diff displays in options and all with the same result I lose my connection.

Here is my specs: I have win 98se and a p4 processor on a titan p4 board with a radeon 7000 vid card with plenty of mem and fast as sh*t.

I think that part of the problem comes from when i start the game ( multi or single) my monitor goes blank ( like its resetting) and then the game starts.

Here is what i have done myself : I have tried all diff vid settings in the options and also downloaded the patch but niether have worked on solving my problem.

Any help from u all would be greatly appreciated.

I know this may sound stupid, but I have to ask. The servers you are joining, do they have custom maps? If they do and you don't have the maps installed, that's why you can't connect.

It's normal for your monitor to go blank during start-up (of the game). That's while your computer is going through the configs and beginning the processes it needs to run the game (like OpenGL, etc.).

I would first try connecting to one of the EA servers (MOHEast, MOHWest, etc.) as these servers only run stock maps (and stock options). If you can't connect to those, then here's some other things you might want to ask yourself:

Did you install any mods, maps, skins, etc.? If so, removed them all and install them one at a time, all the while connecting after each install.

If you can't connect without mods, maps, skins, etc., then the problem may be something else. Do you have the latest patch (1.11)? Do you have broadband or dial-up? Consider the location of the servers you're trying to connect to. Also consider downloading the latest drivers for your video card, modem, nic cards, etc. And finally make sure nothing else is running while you're playing MOH.

Just a thought. angel:

Your monitor "resetting" is what happens when it changes resolution. It happens to me as well and is normal. For example, my desktop resolution is 1280x1024. When you start MOHAA it resets to 800x600 (I think) to play the intro and such, then resets again to 1280x1024 (or whatever you set it at) when it gets to the game itself.

As far as getting kicked off the net or server:
* make sure the server is the same version of MOHAA as you (server timed out error if not)
* make sure you have any custom maps the server is running (dropped to MOHAA main screen if you don't)
* Autokick will boot you if you ping too high (dropped to main screen)

If these suggestions don't work don't worry. There are many people here at aa.com that are much smarter at these things than I. They'll set you straight.

Good luck!

Thanks for the lightning fast response!! But you have miss understood me a lil . when i say connected to the net i mean that I am connected through aol and choose to play multiplayer in the game and lose my conection all together. (Aol pop up stating connection lost) not even gamespy could start up..

I tried without the game patch and when patch was avialble i installed patch and get the same problem. Loss of connection note: I can play return to castle wolfenstien and unreal tourny online without any interferrance with my internet connection.

In lamens terms when i choose to play multiplayer I am not even getting a list of servers to join to play or anything due to my loss of conection error

Thanks agian!! I posted this same question over a week ago at the game makers forums and still have not recieved any replys to the thread. You have just recieved a new member to the site and a spot on the fav list much appreciated!!

Also, is it possible that AOL has a problem with port 12203? That's the most common port that you will use to connect to servers.

OK just stating the obvious nobody else mentioned it. You do have the 1.11 patch installed correct?

What he's saying is that AOL disconnects while he's trying to play MP. This shouldn't be associated to the game's version.

If nothing else seems to have cleared it up, I would check AOL's help database to see if there are issues with some MP games. If you don't find anything, give their tech support a call and ask them if there's anything you need to know before playing MOH online.

I don't believe it should. I use AOL, and have played MOH many times with it running. The only difference is is that I have Cable, not 56K.

Also, make sure you have the V1.11 patch. I know that in V1.0, the game does sheet with Dial-Up properties when you try to play a MP game, so this might be a reason you keep getting cutoff.
